Is suicide permissible in the Christian faith? Let's say you were born in a hellhole or you were in a predicament and can't escape, is suicide justifiable?
There is no condemnation of it in the scriptures
>>544689069heavily discouraged but not a reason to be damned.
The bible does not explicitly forbid suicide. It does explicitly forbid eating pork however. The lesson here is that if you have ever eaten pork you can expect to burn in eternal damnation. Suicide is not so bad though.
>>544690095the dietary laws were given for bodily well being and has nothing to do with judgement.
>>544689069Anything is permitted in christianity as long as you worship a man (the only commandment)
>>544690735"Go and baptize all nations in the name of the father, son and holy spirit"There's more than a couple, bubby
>>544689069You can do whatever you want in whatever religion you choose as long as you stretch the meaning of words to suit your needs. The jews whole identity is to do that.
>>544690095>It does explicitly forbid eating pork however.Jesus corrected that
>>544689069No. To reject life is to throw God's greatest gift away, and is worst of all sins.
>>544691227Bacon is a hell of a drug. Is there a meat so good even God fears his creation?
>>544689069Everyone says go into a land I will show you for that one. Chances are that it breaks the 10 commandments because murder is about trying to destroy God's image. People care about the 10 commandments because it's how you avoid being in slavery.
>>544691603>muh 10 commandmentskekyou shall not "murder"murder: unlawful killingyou shall not do unlawfull killingsbut lawful killings are okis suicide legal?guess it's ok theneven if it was illegal i guess they are just wrong and it should be legaleverything is a game of words
>>544691445>Is there a meat so good even God fears his creation?Shit, God enjoyed the smell so probably not lol>Leviticus 1:9 — “The priest is to burn all of it on the altar. It is a burnt offering, a food offering, an aroma pleasing to the LORD.”
>>544689069Well that depends on the time period.During the middle ages?>When a person died by suicide, the body would be dragged through the streets; the head may be placed on a pole outside the city gates as a warning to others; and, the body may be thrown outside the city gates for birds or animals to consume, or buried at a crossroads as a token of ignominy. The property and possessions of the deceased, as well as that of the family, would be confiscated. Anyone who attempted suicide would be arrested, publicly shamed and sentenced to death.Post Vatican II? The views are much more nebulous. In fact you could say that about their religious views just in general.Who do you think is more earnestly Christian: a European Christian living in the middle ages or a European Christian today?
>>544692110>Anyone who attempted suicide would be arrested, publicly shamed and sentenced to death.lmao, this is so fucking retarded.
>>544689069Smiting the Judai-islam that murder raped the world for twenty-five years after the start of the millennium and went on to drive you to suicide is not suicide. It is what divine war heroes that go to Heaven bringing heaven to Earth do. Let's get ready to scythe reap.
Suicide is mandatory. Youre supposed to give up all of your possessions and love your enemies. You probably cant literally kill yourself, but you can find a way to be a Martyr lol
>>544693675>Smiting the Judai-islam that murder raped the world for twenty-five years after the start of the millennium and went on to drive you to suicide is not suicide.Tried reading this and it nearly gave me a stroke.
>>544694169
>>544693675Islam is shit, I hope there's nothing after death so I can rest in peace.
>>544689069It's not a sin. It's not a form of murder. It's looked down upon but the suicidal are not punished, condemned nor lectured to in the Bible. Job, Elijah and Moses were suicidal at one point but were not condemned for it. They just came to such a low point in their lives that they saw no other way out, but God helped them escape their problems. Christians who have accomplished in killing themselves are not in hell, punished nor condemned. They will be given a resurrection on a cleaned up planet earth.
>>544689069Presumably a sin but still a forgivable one. The only unforgivable sin is blasphemy of the Holy Spirit which is shown in Mark 3:22-30, where some Jews were attributing Jesus' works to the Devil. Also Saul and Samson kill themselves in the OT and are still saved.
>>544689139In Acts 16: 27-28, a prison guard was about to kill himself because all the Christians escaped, but Paul stopped him. Judas also committed suicide by hanging himself. According to Holy Tradition, Judas thought he couldn't be forgiven, and he fell into despair and took his own life. The tree on whichbJudas hung himself bent low to the ground because, God still wanted him to repent and accept His mercy. Then, Judas pulled his knees off the ground and died.>>544689171Yes, it absolutely is a reason to be damned. It is the terminal act of despair and rejection of His mercy.
>>544695095>According to Holy Tradition, Judas thought he couldn't be forgiven, and he fell into despair and took his own life. The tree on whichbJudas hung himself bent low to the ground because, God still wanted him to repent and accept His mercy. Then, Judas pulled his knees off the ground and died.this is why tradition is so fucking trash. it diminishes God to some impotent weakling that has to anxiously wait for his creation to do the right thing which is fucking retarded considering the fallen flesh nature.Judas betrayed the Son of God for 30 shekels, he stole money while being a disciple, he was never going to be saved.>Yes, it absolutely is a reason to be damned.Saul killed himself in despair who God had given a new heart.
>>544694655You may achieve End Eternal that lasts from now until the matter death of the universe if you wish. No heaven, no hell, who hasn't asked for this. And it is your place in free will if you wish to become there.
I don't believe it matters. God wants you in Heaven and through him all things are possible. I think it all works out in the end.
>>544689069Sinful HIGHLY.Killing the self is robbing your life which god gave to you, just like murder is a sin, because you are unjustly taking another's life, suicide unjustly takes your life.
>>544689069Christians aren't monolithic on it.Catholics and Orthodox consider it unforgivable sinEvangelicals consider it sin but not unforgivable (salvation is based on what Christ did not what you did)more tradition leaning protestants like Lutherans don't consider it sin I think, but i'm not sure, but I know that they don't consider it unforgivable because they to are sola fide.
>>544695331>this is why tradition is so fucking trash. This is why you have women and LGBTQ pastors, have hundreds of denominations, are drones for the modern nation state of Israel, have no feast days except for Chrismas and Pascha, have no saints, have garbage aesthetics, and have no fasting nor any ascesis for that matter.>it diminishes God to some impotent weakling that has to anxiously wait for his creation to do the right thing which is fucking retarded considering the fallen flesh nature. It not not diminish him in anyway. God is not lacking in anything. He doesn't need us, but we need Him. You however, do not believe in an all-loving God who will do anything and everything he can to save you,and giving you every opportunity for repentance with the only X-factor being your own free will. He desires your salvation than anyone else in all of Creation, including you.
>>544689069If things get bad enough, you're going to do it regardless, and if Christians get their way, it will
>>544689139>>544689069Suicide is a violation of Gods law “Thou shalt not kill”.

>>544689139As far as I know, none but the votaries of monotheistic, that is to say, Jewish religions, look upon suicide as a crime. This is all the more striking, inasmuch as neither in the Old nor in the New Testament is there to be found any prohibition or positive disapproval of it; so that religious teachers are forced to base their condemnation of suicide on philosophical grounds of their own invention.

God acts first in your life and gives you faith in the first place so His name is glorified.he is not dependent for you to finally do the right thing, he is the one that drives you right in it in the first place.God is not just a teddy bear, he is also the King and Judge of his creation. some clay he forms to judge so we might know his might.Romans 9 20But who are you, O man, to answer back to God? Will what is molded say to its molder, “Why have you made me like this?” 21Has the potter no right over the clay, to make out of the same lump one vessel for honorable use and another for dishonorable use? 22What if God, desiring to show his wrath and to make known his power, has endured with much patience vessels of wrath prepared for destruction, 23in order to make known the riches of his glory for vessels of mercy, which he has prepared beforehand for glory—
>>544695095>Muh holy traditionScripture outright says that it'd have been better to have never been born than be the man who betrayed Jesus.Judas had seen all that Jesus had done, and did not believe... blaspheming the Holy Spirit.Jesus didn't tell Judas to repent and get mercy.Jesus said "that which you do, do quickly"Matthew 26>21 And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.>22 And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I?>23 And he answered and said, He that dippeth his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me.>24 The Son of man goeth as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born.>25 Then Judas, which betrayed him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said unto him, Thou hast said.John 13>21 When Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.>22 Then the disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom he spake.>23 Now there was leaning on Jesus' bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.>24 Simon Peter therefore beckoned to him, that he should ask who it should be of whom he spake.>25 He then lying on Jesus' breast saith unto him, Lord, who is it?>26 Jesus answered, He it is, to whom I shall give a sop, when I have dipped it. And when he had dipped the sop, he gave it to Judas Iscariot, the son of Simon.>27 And after the sop Satan entered into him. Then said Jesus unto him, That thou doest, do quickly.Peter had a moment of weakness and denied Jesus, Jesus allowed him to repent.Judas as not afforded this. That is not to say that suicide is an unforgivable sin. Just that Judas' condemnation was not due to his suicide or even his betrayal, but at the core of WHY Judas betrayed Jesus.... he didn't believe Jesus.
>>544697017>posts puc of PopeI'm Orthodox, not Catholic.>Posts that the verses from Romans 9 about God as a PotterAh, I see. You are a reformed protestant/calvinist, who believes in predestination. You are beholden one of the most evil heresies in all the world, believes God purposely creates people to be doomed for Gehenna, and have no free will, and that your choices bare bo consequence on your salvation. You do not worship the Triune God in Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, but a tyrant. You are no different from gnostics and muslims.
>>544697961>I'm Orthodox, not Catholic.same thing minus the pope.>who believes in predestinationgoes hand in hand with a sovereign God over all creation. and no I am not a calvinist.“I will have mercy on whom I have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I have compassion.” >believes God purposely creates people to be doomed for Gehennasays so right there. some for honorable use, another for dishonorable use.>and have no free willyou have free will in the context of where God positioned you. you dont chose where you are born, you dont chose God on your own etc etc, you are a participant with limited free will.>and that your choices bare bo consequence on your salvationyou are saved once, salvation is whats ongoing afterwards.you have the choice to obey Gods commandments and you better do unless you want to be called least in the kingdom.>You do not worship the Triune God in Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, but a tyrant.Jesus came to set us free from the tyrant that is satan, and God loved the world so much he gave his only Son that if we believe in him we have eternal life with him.this is far from being a tyrant, it is a unfathomable benevolent God since Jesus blood is infinitely precious.>You are no different from gnostics and muslims.yet you are rejecting the gospel of Paul like the muslims do.
>>544697910>Judas had seen all that Jesus had done, and did not believe... blaspheming the Holy Spirit. What do you think faith and belief are? An intellectual stance or declaration that Jesus Christ is God? Or is it something more, like trust and faithfulness? Judas had the grace to perform miracles, but he was obstinant against it to repent and ask for forgiveness. That is the unforgivable sin against the Holy Spirit. An unrepentant person cannot be forgiven.>Jesus didn't tell Judas to repent and get mercy.Christ stated many times in Gospels to his disciples and to those he heal to repent and seek mercy.

>>544689069>Is suicide permissible in the Christian faith?Under no circumstances. Greatest sin ever and automatically sends you to Hell.It is rejection of The Holy Spirit which is Life Itself. No funeral rites whatsoever including memorials / remembrances if they were sound of mind and did it deliberately, no rites in the Church and only a simplified ritual by the edge of the tomb for those that were mad.Personal prayers out of love are accepted.Death resulted after attempt to save others even if knowingly it would result in own death is not considered suicide but on the contrary one of the greatest virtues - selfsacrifice for others ones like the Saviour did and the highest form of love.It is considered that whatever you have to endure is either for your sins so you won't be punished in the afterlife or if inocent it is for a high reward in Heaven. Highest reward would be typically for Holy Martyrdom but not necesarily - the paymemt of the vineyard workers.

>>544698494it's obvious that Judas did not believe Jesus was who He said He was, because He betrayed Him.It's less about the specific action he did and more why he did it. Judas had made a conclusion that he had been following a false messianic claimant. That was why Satan could enter into him and have him betray Jesus.Had Judas actually had faith in Jesus, Satan wouldn't have been able to enter him, cause him to betray, and he would not have had committed suicide. He didn't believe, plain and simple.

>>544689069>How does Christianity view suicideSuicide is a sin.It is also wrong if you don't ask for help but it is also a sin if you don't get help either.
the one place I find conflict is.. if you're terminally ill, no chance of a cure or remission, and you're just in physical pain 24/7 with it, like say you have cancer that spread to your bones, and not even morphine or fentanyl will touch it.What then?Just suffer the full brunt of your cancer pain with no mercy or relief for days or weeks on end?

>>544702585Cancer's killed off with antiparasitics. All it is is a fine pathogen infestation.Easy, get with it already. Stage 4 no problem even, as long as the patient is willing.Antiparasitics don't conflict with chemo either.
>>544702920yeah I don't buy that. if it were that easy, they'd have been doing it en masse.at the very least no doctor would ever die of cancer because they'd know the 'secret cure' of antiparasitics
>>544689069It's a grey area in Catholicism. The basic thing is it's a sin, and since you're dead at the end of it you can't ask for forgiveness afterwards. But there are 2 exceptions - if, say, you were captured and about to be tortured for information then your goal wouldn't be death, it would be preventing the enemy getting the information and the death would be a side effect, so then it would be ok. If you're in chronic pain you can't take pain killers with the intention of killing yourself, but if you take a lot of pain killers and accidentally OD then it's not considered a sin since your goal wasn't death, it was just a side effect. It's the intention that counts. The other is if you're truly out of your mind with mental health issues since sin has to be voluntary. So someone with severe manic depression or in a psychotic break might be OK since they weren't in control, but someone despairing over losing a job or partner or their general future would be considered in control. So the short version is if you're rationally considering it then it's a sin and not permissible.
