The Ukraine war involve sacrificing Ukraine to degrade Russia relative to the west. The key is relative to the west. If you degrade Russia in a way that also harms the west, such as bombing fuel refineries during a world wide fuel crysis, you are not longer degrading Russia relative to the west.
