This is only the second emergency release from the 1-million-barrel stockpile in its 26-year history and the only time it has been used to affect pricing, as tens of millions of Americans in the northeast, great lakes and midwest face doubled heating costs this winter.

The federal government plans to release up to 315,000 barrels from the Northeast Home Heating Oil Reserve in an effort to tackle high prices amid a global energy crunch triggered by the U.S. war against Iran.

Oil will be auctioned off starting next week, with deliveries to be completed by mid-November, according to the U.S. Department of Energy.

I still dont' get how the worlds largest oil/gas exporter can have a crisis around diesel/oil/gas. It should be cheap as fuck, capitalism works right?

most if it gets exported to other countries who pay more than we do.

ignore the fact that gas is cheaper everywhere else lol

Only one part of the country (the northeast) really uses heating oil, and that area also doesn't want to allow pipelines to be built there. Most of the heating oil in the US is refined on the Gulf Coast. The line space going to the northeast is at full capacity. I don't know what these people expected.

We export the crude we extract to be refined elsewhere and import the type of crude our refineries are built to handle. The net exporter shit is an obfuscation. It's also a global market.

They didn't expect a war of choice against Iran to drag on for 8 months leading to a doubling of heating oil to all time highs, after falling to multi-year lows right up to the day before the Trump attacked Iran.

See Irish Potato Famine
During those years their agricultural yields were actually higher than years prior.

True. Alaska also depends on heating oil btw.

Just ignite your blubber. You'll stay warm until Easter.

What if there were proven building techniques that radically reduced the amount of energy homes need to stay warm? What if it's not new at all and has been around for decades?
