stuff stored in plastic tupperwares can pick up a soapy taste from the detergent left over after a diswash

yeah, plastic and silicone cookware absorb soap on a molecular level.
You know how tupperware stains orange over time when it absorbs tomato sauce?
well it absorbs soap too.
Never ever be lazy and let plastic or silicone "soak" overnight. Everything it touches will taste like dish soap forever.

The nugs who transported my insulation made it smell like cigarette smoke

I don’t think that would make everything taste like soap. Having a burnt taste in your mouth is an early sign you could be having a stroke or transient ischemia (blood flow to small sections of brain impeded). Do you have a family history of strokes or heart disease?

how old is your insulation

Also, COVID is making its rounds again and one of the famous rare side effects is impaired or loss of taste. Any coughing sneezing lately, feeling sick?

It's just carbonated club soda or sugar free soda. Like it contaminated and they "fixed" it with soap

wash it hot retard and rinse thoroughly while hot and lower the temperature while you keep rinsing it, it's not hard

that does nothing with silicone.
once the soap flavor is in there, is there to stay. You could boil it and it's not going away.

Have your blood pressure and kidneys tested. Both can cause chemicals in your blood to come out in your saliva (and skin) cause you smell / taste things oddly.
When my blood pressure was really high (190+) I would taste burnt plastic nearly constantly. Also things I ate would make weird tastes / smells for days afterward. The worst was meats and aged foods.
After I got some blood pressure medication, all that went away nearly instantly.

AI Overview

A soapy taste in your mouth is most commonly caused by residual soap or cleaning agents on poorly rinsed dishes, cups, or utensils.
According to Medical News Today and Healthline, other frequent reasons include:
• Foods and Genetics: Eating cilantro or coriander can taste like soap due to a variation in the OR6A2 gene. Carrots also contain natural compounds called terpenoids that can trigger a soapy flavor.
• Medications: Certain drugs—such as the antibiotic telavancin, antiviral treatments like Paxlovid, or selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs)—frequently alter taste perception.
• Oral Health Issues: Poor dental hygiene, cavities, gum disease, dry mouth, or oral thrush can leave a bad or metallic-to-soapy taste behind.
• Chemical Exposure: A lasting soapy or chemical taste can occasionally signal overexposure to sodium fluoride or other household compounds.
• Neurological Factors: Rare causes include a stroke, brain injury, or heightened anxiety affecting how your brain processes taste signals.
