UK gave Poland a blank check, saying they would go to war with Germany if they attacked Poland for any reason.
Many places in Poland were majority German, they were lost in WW1.
Danzig (97% German) revolted and said they wanted to be part of what Hitler was doing, even electing their own officials. Poland didn't like that and was afraid to lose territory, so they used the UK's blank check.
They started to persecute, beat and kill Germans, burning farms and shit to relocate them (this part is denied by the jews, but an independent American reporter visited Poland at that time and reported that he saw the persecution happening. Though it's very possible that Germans fabricated some stuff.
So Hitler invaded to protect his people, honestly, his hands were tied, he couldn't afford to bluff at that time (he probably wanted war anyway, but not with the UK).
So when Germans invaded they paid back the persecution.
