9000 square feet, 5 bedroom, 6 bathroom house, sold recently for 5.5 million$. Just because an ugly kid stopped Joe Pesci from robbing his ass on Christmas.

Wet Bandits in 2026 would be criminal masterminds in today's USA.
>>
I saw that movie when it came out and I was a kid and we never thought they were middle class

>Home Alone house - this was sold to retarded Americans as middle class home in 1990's
It was. Americans have been fucked hard since.
>>
>>544816632
They are suppsed to be rich the whole block is traveling to the holidays that’s why the robbers are there you fucking dipshit
>>
And a large cheese pizza from Little Nero's was $3.

>Wet Bandits in 2026 would be criminal masterminds in today's USA.
In today's USA they'd be caught on doorbells cams and rounded up in 20 minutes.

>>544816724
Right? What kind of 8 person middle-class family could afford to fly to Europe during the peak holiday travel season?
>>
>>544816632
this was barely middle class in the early 90s, more like bordering on poverty
that was part of the joke
like "haha, why are these guys robbing these poor peoples house?"
and
"haha, they're so poor their entire extended family goes on vacation" instead of them just not going to their house in the south of France like everyone normal back then
like
ew
they have to go on 'vacation' to a 'hotel'
instead of just to their 2nd or 3rd mansion
>>
>>544816724
They were portrayed as middle class not rich doofus

The Home Alone family were never meant to be “middle class.” They were going to Paris for Christmas…

The USA is utterly ZOGged and things are materially worse by every metric since the 90s, but this argument is dumb.
>>
>>544816632
I was born in 92, I grew up in a 6br 2ba house on 3 acres and we were dead average middle/upper middle class in my region. My family was never by any means rich.
>>
>>544816632
It's not. It's in one of the fanciest neighborhoods in the entire United States where CEOs live.
>>
>>544817072
No they weren't. No one but the wealthy flew domestic even, let alone to Europe. European vacations were a once in a lifetime thing for most boomers. And then they were flying first class with the kids in coach..
>>
>>544817072
No they were not. Career burglars (i.e., non-crackheads) don’t target middle class homes.
>>
>>544817056
>they'd be caught on doorbells cams and rounded up in 20 minutes.
just like the kidnappers of Savannah Guthrie's mother?
Criminals adapt. That's why they became the Sticky Bandits in the second film. And why Marv was able to turn into a skeleton.

In the opening scene, when Harry (disguised as a police officer) is talking to Kevin's mother, Kate McCallister, in the foyer while the family is frantically packing, he says:

Harry: "It's the holiday season, ma'am. People leave town, houses sit empty... and this is a very rich neighborhood. Top-of-the-line electronics, expensive jewelry, fine art... prime targets for a professional burglar."

Later, when Harry and Marv are parked outside in their van watching the street, Harry reinforces the plan:

Harry: "This is it, Marv. This is the one. That's the 'Silver Tuna' right there."
Marv: "It's a beauty."
Harry: "Every house on this block is loaded with top-flight goods. And every family on this block is out of town."

The house was explicitly the most fancy pants rich house in the most fancy pants rich area of chicago, dumbfucks.
>>
>>544817056
Insane belief that the police would give a fuck about this.

Wow I totally forgot about her. Good point.

That said, you can get some places on a middle class income that are substantially similar, even in nice suburbs if you move to second tier cities.
>>
>>544816632
that house only cost $200k then too, it was all the nice amish furniture and tiffany lamps that just made them better than middle class burgers then
>>
>>544816724
This
While never outright stated, Kevin's dad was some kind of business or advertising executive in Chicago. They also didn't pay for the trip to Paris. The dad's brother (Uncle Rob) moved to Paris for business related reasons and wanted to spend time with his family, so he fronted the travel arrangements with the family staying at his penthouse when they got there.
The family wasn't absurdly wealthy but were well off for 1990s money. The house they were in had a value of around 900,000 in 1990 dollars which was definitely doable at executive pay scales for a big city advertising firm.

That said, movie and sitcoms are usually hilariously bad at depicting broke people. Mother fuckers will be struggling while living in a house or apartment setup that shows pretty obscene wealth. The only show I can think of that shows poor family struggles right is Malcolm in the Middle. They start poor, stay poor, and even the very intelligent Malcolm winds up working as janitor. The kind that gets paid, he wasn't retarded enough enough to be a janitor for free.

retarded fucking nigger, it was 4200ish square feet when it was filmed. thats a large ish house but by no means a mansion or some unobtainable piece of real estate. i live in a 5900 squre foot colonial plantation home, got it for 37,000 on forclosure in 2001, put 250k in restoration work since 139 yo old home and added a quarter sized olympic lap pool. now its market value is 1.47 million lol, lmao even. must suck to suck at life as much as you do. fucking peasant

>When the film was made in 1990, the house was 4,243 square feet.
>• Bedrooms: 5
>• Bathrooms: 3.5
>• Levels: 3 stories (plus a basement)
>The massive increase to its current 9,126-square-foot size happened later during a major multi-year renovation and expansion project completed in 2018.

tiffany lamps are not something that makes a domicile better or worse than any other as 90+% of "tiffany" lamps are really just "tiffany lamp style" knockoffs

id reckon north of 750k w/the acreage included if flyover country or appalachia. if new england or there abouts 1.5mil+. add another 70 if theres a pool
>>

That was never a middle class house. That place is huge. That would be in the rich part of town in most suburban neighborhoods

Tetchy, aren't we. Well, mr richboy, burden of proof is on your ass, go in front of your house (your dad's actually ofc) and post a pic with a timestamp.

Otherwise, you are just Jamal Rodriguez, mystery meat dishwasher at Five guys.

>9000 square feet
Yeah, this house is massive. Most middle class homes are around 2000 sqft. Give or take a couple of hundred sqft

>>
>>544818555
it was 4200 square feet when the movie was filmed. that's a slightly larger than average sized home for the area, but not huge by any stretch of the imagination
>>
>>544817221
umm i was middle class and every spring break throughout my entire childhood we went all over the fucking place. flying domestic was not for the wealthy at all, and eurovacations were reasonably priced in the 90s/early 2000's since frequent flyer miles from Amex covered all flights and hotels. lake tahoe was exponentially more expensive than any location in europe i visited.
>>
>>544817386
Based Home Alone expert
The Simpsons or Al Bundy is a much better example of 90's middle class
>>
>>544816724
They're actually middle class (well paid specialized professionals), not what we've been brainwashed into calling middle class (workers making barely above minimum wage)
>>
For us yuropoors it looked like Abraham Lincoln's second home. Filthy rich.
We even had a saying back then as kids "Am I Kevin alone at home?" If we wanted to mock someone for thinking you were a rich nigger...
>>
>>544817386
This. No one ever thought it was middle class. Middle class families didn’t go on all expenses paid vacations paid for by rich relatives.
>>544818948
This is the truth. Both are good examples of normal 90’s middle class homes.
>>
>>544818030
>must suck to suck at life as much as you do

You had an unfair advantage by being born first, that's literally it. There is nothing remotely comparable that I can do with $37k right now.
>>
>>544817072
>They were portrayed as middle class not rich doofus
The father had a very large house, many privately-educated children, and took his family (and his brother’s family) on vacation to France. I think that was over $35K just in airfare alone in today’s dollars.
Maybe I’m a poorfag for noticing these things.

The White House?

>>544816632
average size of the childhood home of "eat the rich" faggots

nigger shit I used to think low attention span retards traded in reading for popular movies and rap music but you morons can't even pay attention to the details of a kid's Christmas movie either
>>
>>544818089
I was wondering why a house this nice would be so cheap and of course it right on the boarder of nigger/spicville. Looks like that neighborhood is turning to shit
>>
>>544818319
Back when people were normal they did not have 3 bathrooms per person.
