Those things(aside from the car) have gotten dirt cheap because of process improvements and the fact that they are dirt and not very much of it.The price of dirt, however, along with the houses you put on it and other necessities, has gone up because of population growth and increased centralization with more than a little economic mismanagement. So no, people can't just live the way they used to unless you mean self sufficient homesteaders and even then probably not.

There was a slight bounch in births from 2011 to 2017 but that's gone. Furthermore in the first half of 2026 marriages were down more than 7% from the same period in 2025 which points to further declines (2025 actually had more marriages than 2024 despite far fewer births though) As it stands 2030-2035 is basically going to be the last of the dead cat bounces from the absurdly high births in the 60s into terminal decline.
