https://www.reuters.com/science/new-scentronic-technology-can-detect-transmit-aromas-remotely-2026-10-23/

Is this another step towards the Matrix? It has dystopian implications...
>>
>WASHINGTON, Oct 23 (Reuters) - People can readily share images and sounds digitally, as evidenced by the billions of smartphones in use globally that often overload the human senses of sight and hearing. But smell generally remains missing from remote communication. That could soon change.

>Researchers have developed technology that features an electronic nose that recognizes certain smells, like the distinctive aroma of coffee, and then instructs a small and wearable remote device to release scent molecules matching it. The digital communication can take place at any distance, from across the room to around the world.

>"In simple terms, it connects 'smelling something here' with 'recreating the corresponding smell somewhere else,'" said Chunyu Yang, an Ohio State University doctoral student in materials science and engineering and lead author of a study describing the technology published in the journal Science Advances.
>"The idea is to add smell to the visual and audio information we already share remotely, making those experiences more engaging," Yang said.
>The researchers call this latest development in the field of digital scent technology "Scentronic."

>"What makes Scentronic different is that it brings odor sensing and generation together for remote sharing. To the best of our knowledge, our study is the first to explore this integration in a compact platform for remote odor sharing," Yang said.

Dude, it’s fucking vaporware, literally. It’s not an odor generator of any kind, it’s an odor disperser. You’ll note that the researchers have developed scent liquid for only 5 different odors, which they explicitly state must be refilled. As to why they didn’t go the route of using concentrates of each common aromatic compound, then dispersing the appropriate blend to achieve the desired scent, I do not know.

In my studies of Oncology I have come to realize India is a a type of cancer

What we describe as scamming - follows the exact same methods as cancers which trick the immune system into thinking they are something they are not. They produce toxic waste which is at odds with the equilibrium of the body, in this instance - the earthly body. And they adapt and spread.

William Attenborough called humans a virus - I think he is wrong, some human beings are part of the immune system

A better version of this was made in the late 90s early 2000s. It could make a bunch of different smells and hooked up to your desktop. It sort of looked like a white plastic toaster.

It was too expensive and only a handful of sites implemented it.
>>
>>544837766
>>544837818
is this the same stupid shit as last time? it's a device that sits on your desk that's larger than a desktop tower that has little spray bottles in it. it squirts out a little gun powder and a little burnt rubber along with the gaming inputs so you feel like you're in the zone.

that company failed because it was stupid. it requires squirt bottles of flavors. it isn't a quantum breadboard that offgasses science
>>
>>544840915
I had one of them. It could only emulate burning toast.
>>
>>544840969
You put the cartridge in wrong.

That said a lot of people are shitting on this but if it was an actually viable tech that could recreate any scent accurately without significant cost to the end-user, it'd have plenty of commercial use
Right now if you want to buy something like perfume/cologne, you really need to go to a brick and mortar store to sample it unless you're going to blindly trust a review from a site like Fragrantica. With this you could digitally sample it from Amazon (although this opens up DRM questions because the last thing corporations want is you pirating their cologne from the scent sample)
You could apply this to anything scented online.
Candles, incenses, body washes, deodorant, shampoos, all sorts of food items, and so forth.
I think it'd actually be an incredibly valuable technology IF it were feasible, but the hard threshold is making something user friendly that doesn't have significant end user cost. I'm not spending a dollar's worth of scent cartridges to sample something, it needs to cost a few cents per sample or even be something like sending electrical signals that fool the brain into thinking it's smelling something that costs fractions of cents in electricity per sample.
>>
>>544837766
This has been a thing for over 2 decades, retard. I remember my friend pulling up random pictures of toys from childhood like crayons or playdough and i could smell them instantly. Crazy thing is, I wasn't looking at the photos, only guessing like Anakin in episode 1 correctly guessing every image on the device. Jews taking their sweet time trying to figure out white man psychic magic as usual.

This is a slow news day story
Chemical companies try to market 'smells on demand' every few years saying the technology is way better now and your life will totally be enhanced if you can small movies or perfume adverts or food through your tv or computer screen. Nobody wants this but the chemical companies have a marketing budget they need to spend and the news companies have empty pages they need to fill.
>>
genius. this is the next big thing.
it's so simple but no one with shekels really wanted to move on it.
(yes i am thinking of cartridges much like ink, except with smells). the large scale version would be in theaters (activate smoke scent when it goes with the scene).
>>
>>544841042
I guarantee no perfume/cologne brands would use this tech. Someone would opensource every scent.

Would you really want your house to smell like McDonalds or Bob Evans every time an ad came on TV? That's mostly what it would be used for.

>Hulu is Proud to present the smells of Africa all Black History month.

Is that the world you want to live in?
>>
>>544837766
This is the third time in my life an earnest report claimed smell-o-vision exists now.

This is probably the dumbest one.
>>
>>544841183
>Would you really want your house to smell
ideally it'd be lightweight and sit on your nose, like how you wear headphones, and the scent would be minimal
just enough for you to enjoy it for a few seconds before it disperses
the cost to project it across the room from a smart TV feels like it'd be absurd
>>
>>544841183
Scents are already open source and easily deducible to a refined perfumer

What the real application for this technology would be is connected to Memory Retrieval since the Olfactory is integrated into the Hippocampus.

I wrote a blueprint with Gemini of it.

I no longer use AI

You are actually fucking retarded. The only way you could smell the cologne is if your device already had the cologne in it. You would have to buy it first.

And unless the world is even dumber than I think, you can still get free samples of the scents so you can fantasize about how not-gay you will smell when you buy it.
