Do you view Halloween as an important holiday, and do you actually do anything on it?

Assuming you as an adult have a reason to do anything on that day (you have kids, your work might encourage dressing up, you are going to a party, etc); are any of you anons dressing up?

If so, what as?

Due to my work, I’m allowed to dress up. I’ll be dressing up as pic related

Just bought a house in a young family type-neighborhood after living in a high rise apartment for years and I'm fucking psyched. Already bought like $200 worth of king size candies, a smoke machine, and whole bunch of decorations and pumpkins. Almost feels like being a kid again, just from the other side.

Yes. Except to us it was Witches Night/Into Devils Day/Night.

We did it a bit differently in Europe in my neck of the woods. Fire skipping, purification ritual.

Now, here, it's mellow watered down cute Halloween and I love it. I'll be at work, I always light a flame under the stars at midnight Halloween into next day especially. Usually the night before too, and night of into next.

I'll be in a security guard uniform, lol, dressed up enough I guess.

Plus, I work outside a lot... so I'll be alone, roaming outside. :)

I love spookey stuff... now it's fun only. It was always fun, except before, it was some real sheet! :D

I grew up according to Christians as a Satanist, it was wholesome.

Sounds fun to be honest I hope you show some kids a spooky time
Kids don't come to apartment doors and handing it out to kids coming home from school is gonna be seen as creepy so I don't get to give any out
Did just sent a giant box of hot wheels and slap bracelets and orbeez and pkmn cards and candy ofc to the nephew and nieces

I only enjoy Halloween for the aesthetic. But I haven't celebrated it since I was kid.

Not a dutch holiday, so no.
St. Maarten is on 11th of november so if you want candy you return then with light and song.

I don't mind Halloween so long as the Halloweeners do not mind me not minding it either.

That’s awesome
Just don’t be surprised if you only have 2 or 3 families show up though

Its an Irish/Scottish Christian holiday. People qho think its devul worship are retards. The devil, being so prideful views even the smallest slight at his expense as an insult so to mock and laugh about him for even one day is a grave insult. Im taking my kids out. Our neighborhood has alot of houses that are decorated and some do treats for the adults. One place handed out Molsen Cold Shots, another did shots of Frieball with full sized bars for the kids and another was doing Disaronno shots and treats. We have a couple of guys that do the buddy acts like a prop and pops up to scare the kids too. Its a blast. Groups of kids are mostly white and the parents generally dress up too.

I'm going to a Halloween party next week. I'm think about picrel but im open to suggestions. We'll drink good and have a bonfire. Then for Halloween I'm taking the kids to our church trunk or treat because I I'm not driving a fucking hour away to the nearest suburb and also because no one participates anymore like in my childhood

Old sea farying peoples would hand a horse on the ceiling, stab it to bleed over them as they danced away the night... dressed in costume and other stuff was happening and that was the oldest Halloween version.

The UK area, much latter on was that a group dressed up in costume, they rode horses with fire torches through their areas. They would pick one sacrifice from a single house, and all those spared who were considered would have a turnip at the door, and it would be lit a wick over it... now a Pumpkin Lanter. It was real. When they came at the door, you brought out one of your own, period.

Now, Germans... lol

Won't even get into Slavic version and others... Halloween is a layered cake.

We celebrated our own version, it was generational and regional enough. It was divided into age groups, we got bonfires as children.

Praising the Devil with the lighting of the flame, not Devil but Lucifer, the light... Prometheus stuff. Knowledge .

No bullshit and abuse, Knowledge, Light, Purification, Jumping the flames, cleansing the spirit and so on.

For Witches night we'd usually light candles and feast. Mom would make good snacks. They'd go on doing their own stuff, but we'd go to bed.

Usually chants, and so on.

The vail is thin, the night is long, it's full of dance, tricks and song. lol

I LOVE Halloween, I can't wait for it. I am beyond excited, and I'll be alone a lot under the stars.

Me, the living walking dead, thin btw the worlds, something to enjoy.

I live in a little tourist town. We have an old style main street that they shut down and block off for Halloween. All the stores put out tables of candy, the kids run around getting candy and the adults drink in the street. It's fun, the whole town comes.

I'm planning on dressing up as "Santa on vacation", so the pants, hat, beard, Hawaiian shirt, and so on. I also want to make my famous cider that I normally hand out to trick or treaters, but the streets have been dead the last 3 years I've tried it. I may just bar crawl around downtown instead.

I live in a small closed off family community where there only a few entry points. Homes are all kept up, very few rentals, lots of kids, and an easy route where one can cover maximum amount of homes in the minimal amount of time. Many homes decorate for the season. Should be easy pickings on foot by an enterprising kid. Since Covid, we’re lucky if we see three or four small packs of kids by 8pm. Even being generous, we’re usually stuck with a half bag of candy. When I was a kid, we’d dream of neighborhoods like this starting in by 4 and not giving up until all the porch lights were shut off as a sign that there was no more candy to be had.

Possible causes: kids all head for the wealthier neighborhoods thinking they’ll be handing out Lambo’s or something. My neighbor tried a tailgate party handing dog’s and Pepsis to the kids and burgers to adults. Mostly patronized by neighbors rather than outside families so was a good time meeting neighbors.

2. Malls and city planning tend to have a Halloween party billed as “safe family fun”. So much easier running from store to store under halogen lighting and warm climate collecting fun sized candies then creeping around the dark with your friends

3. Scheduling. Kids don’t know whether they’re supposed to go Trick a Treating on a school night or wait until a rescheduled weekend night. Those years were lucky if we get anyone. Frustrating for the adults who want to set aside time.

Good luck with your endeavors though. It’s great you want to really keep the tradition alive rather than just going through the motions. Earth needs more people like that. I salute you, sir.

Have kids. We make costumes every year and go trick or treating together. I've made about twenty at this point: a peacock, a praying mantis, two Chinese dragons, a steam train, Skywarp, Soundwave, a hummingbird, a woodcock, a parrot, a unicorn, two obscure comic characters, two characters from their own comic... They went as a pair of D&D dice one year, a d12 and a d20. Takes a long time to create them. I'm still slow at it.
