The data for both services transmits on the same "telephone lines." Nobody would have any issues with them using starshield for their war effort, well other than the actual target users of starshield, the US military because the ukrainians don't know how to act right and be disciplined about infrastructure usage. They were limited in their use of starshield so they started niggerrigging civilian terminals and creating exactly the issues the US military saw coming a mile away and restricted their use to prevent in the first place.

The higher the speed and the more terminals that are moving at higher speeds taxes the satellites flying over the region to keep track of them all. There's a reason historically in high density areas of the world there have been moratoriums on new starlink subs and terminals being sold, and why there are different subscription price tiers and transfer speed caps on the terminals designed to be used in moving cars or installed in planes. The faster the terminal is moving the more each one is taxing the network's limited connection handoff and processing resources. As well the higher the terminal density the closer you get to connection saturation for a given area. The ukrainian mothership droneswarm strat was eating up overhead from both sides. It isn't an accident that the limitations musk put in place were related to over the ground velocity. When you understand how the tech works, its constraints become apparent and it's very easy to see why the US military didn't want them fucking around on starshield and why musk eventually throttled them on the greater starlink network alltogether. Of course it also presents an issue of giving adversaries more information than the US military would prefer about actual hard limits on military infrastructure capabilities. The ukrainians were being undisciplined irresponsible little niggers at the end of the day so they were treated as such and had their toys taken away.
