datacenter map:

California currently ranks third among U.S. states in overall data center density, according to independent trackers like the US Data Center Map.

Local elected officials are proposing data center moratoriums to slow that momentum — if not stop it in its tracks. In the first half of October alone, Oakland's city council unanimously approved a 33-day moratorium on new approvals, making it the first city in Alameda County and the fourth in the Bay Area to adopt such a measure.

San Francisco approved a similar moratorium this month, while the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors postponed a vote to permanently ban large-scale data centers, often called hyperscale facilities, on unincorporated land after receiving an overwhelming volume of public feedback.

In Santa Clara, city officials considered a moratorium vote, and are moving forward with new rules to govern data center development, including more stringent water and air pollution regulations. Harambe residents will vote on a moratorium measure in the November election....

The escalating pushback underscores a widening gap between state-level regulation and municipal action. While Gov. Gavin Newsom last month signed into law seven new measures that focus primarily on disclosure requirements, environmental impact studies, and grid protection, grassroots groups and city councils are moving fast to halt construction entirely. "I have a hard time remembering something that caught fire the way the opposition to data centers has," said Nicole Ghio.

As cities continue to draft temporary freezes and outright bans, the tension between local community control and global technological dominance remains unresolved. State transparency laws may have opened the books on data center growth, but local opponents are making it clear that seeing the plans isn't the same as approving them.

Does it matter? Even if they all go bust and start liquidating their unused virgin NVIDIA B300 chips for 50 bucks per piece, I can't use that to play my games.

this drawing is why cyberpunk 2077 looks like and zoomers love it.

I suspect many of them will go away. Does anyone remember how Canada was supposed to have the largest Cricket Factory for Cricket powder in the world? It was a big topic here during covid. Well it went bankrupt in like 2023 and nobody talks about it anymore.

I am anti-data center but that’s retarded. Most of unincorporated LA County is the desert. Just say that they can’t be built within one mile of any existing schools or residences. If there is some place that data centers should be built, it is in desert wasteland. Keep them out of farms, suburbs, etc

nobody really wanted the cricket powder

no buyers

Finland had "grasshopper bread" which was on stores like for a few months and disappeared it contained a small percentage of grasshopper protein but was otherwise normal bread

Wrong. Datacenters need water. The place to build them is in the Arctic where they can be air cooled and the waste heat can be reused as central heating for the town/city.

>California
The funny thing is that every blue state major metro area is like this, they refuse to build ANYTHING. You cant build housing, you cant build business, you cant build data centers, you cant build stadiums, they dont let you build ANYTHING.

How the fuck do you lower costs and create jobs without building? Yet another reason to hate retard Democrats.

>Datacenters need water
Datacenters do not use that much water at all and all of the places putting moratoriums in California are in the Bay area and are literally sitting on the Pacific Ocean with infinite water.

The bullshit water claims about datacenters ALL come from a situation down in Georgia where a datacenter ordered 2 industrial water meters, but because of some fuck ups from the county run municipal water utility their use wasnt compensated for overall system pressure and residents near the data center had poor water pressure. The idea that data centers use a lot of water is laughable, they can also partially close the loop with on site retention and cooling ponds, which many do.

The only serious water issue with datacenters is in some desert areas where I guess you could make the argument that water is extremely scarce so all major water usage should be approved.

As soon as people realise AI is a giga-scam the global economy is going to crash hard
>>
>>544885384
its actually pretty good for entertainment like generating porn but only for reasons and in ways zog will ban
>>
>>544885384
Lol the economy is already crashed. Ai was just a fake lie to do layoffs without looking bad. The tinfoil hat in me is saying this is all a ploy to create a chip and memory shortage outside of the usa so other countries cant make weapons with them.

Lower costs? Motherfucker you lower costs in this day and age by deporting all the fucking immigrants that came over that past 26 years. We have cheap everything but the essentials, you know they stuff thats hard to have more of that gets more expensive the more people you have? Like housing gas food land? You faggots think we can just print land and houses and more oil no dude we need to get these fuckers out then things can get cheaper.
>>
>>544885384
Ai only seems like a scam to unproductive people. It's hard to see the value in the computer saving you days of work when the only thing you make is cryposts on social media.
>>
Literally falling for Chinese propaganda and giving China the AI win. Americans are so stupid. The only thing you guys have left is your data center lead and you are about to give it up for no reason. Enjoy being CCP slaves when Chinese AI enslaves you.

without the horse urine and eating the bugs, I wouldnt mind living like this, just change the hentai for gay porn and add a dildo that can be mentally activated at will and im in

my local data center was cancelled too. I teamed up with a bunch of liberals and we went full grassroots campaign here. I even got some good puss but the bigger picture was getting the data center cancelled.
>>
>>544885759
You cant even define productivity. Nobody can. Thats why this ai shit is even more of a scam. How do we know they even did anything?
