Asian refinery orders for U.S. crude have plunged by 50% from September. The Iran war has made oil tanker voyages so inefficient that vessel availability has crumbled and freight costs have soared to record-highs, erasing the incentive for shipping crude oil from the U.S. Gulf Coast to Asia.

The cost of shipping crude oil from the U.S. Gulf Coast to China soared to $80 million earlier this month. That’s ten times the tanker rates before the Iran war. U.S. crude oil and petroleum exports surged to a record high in the early weeks of the Middle East war. But the conflict broke the global tanker market and added a shipping crisis on top of the oil supply and fuel crises.

The Iran war has reshuffled trade routes and patterns and tied up more tankers in inefficient and lengthy voyages.

Ship-to-ship (STS) transfers in the Gulf of Oman are tying up supertankers for weeks waiting for the transfers outside the Strait, limiting the availability of very large crude carriers (VLCCs) for the other global key oil trade routes, such as the U.S. Gulf Coast to Asia.

The Gulf of Oman shuttle fleet has expanded to about 80 VLCCs. However, the average round-voyage times have reached 23 days, more than double the optimal 9–10 days for a round trip from Basrah in Iraq to Sohar offshore Oman, according to Kpler, leaving the market short on vessels elsewhere.

is that even possible when all nearby military naval bases have been abandoned / utterly obliterated (like the 5th fleet HQ)? they're using diego garcia right now which is so far away it's like twice the distance from where i currently am vs the tip of italy. no way you can sustain major war operations with such a vast logistical chain. not to mention the region as a whole is thousands and thousands of kilometers away from the US mainland. such a land war would cost trillions, take 1+ year to prepare and this time around the US will not have dozens of NATO countries backing them up with logistics and tens of thousands of troops. and unlike in the past, the US cannot prepare for such a war at their leisure, with iranian missiles, drones and satellite capabilities going about.

seems to me like the only option is to bomb iran into submission by knocking out energy and so on. trump might just be retarded enough to do it.

>The Gulf of Oman shuttle fleet has expanded to about 80 VLCCs. However, the average round-voyage times have reached 23 days
so 80 vessels, 23 days per vessel. How are they moving 20mpbd (10 vessels every day) again?
>>
>>544899167
I imagine they're using many other tankers as well. I don't believe it's as much oil as they claim, but it's a lot. It's also under constant fire and unsustainable.

And whenever they do, nothing of value is lost.
