Efficient means expedient in this case. Like entropy.

Yeah, they lost $7.6 Billion in one quarter. That's the invisible hand of the market punishing them for their inefficiency and their failed bet on data centers.

Seriously nigger, how do you leftists not understand basic economics? You make a post showing that a company is losing money because of inefficiency and then you conclude that capitalism doesn't work.

Read a book nigger.

no, they'd rather shred all the GPUs than risk glutting the consumer market or even worse making personally owned powerful AI a thing

That's like you losing 50 cents. You fail to understand how much money these people have. And the rest of us have fucked GPU prices, while they pay no real cost.

Its possible.

Those GPUS won't be obsolete for quite a while; but their market value will go down as newer generations of GPU are released.

Selling some of them onto the consumer PC market to take advantage of high demand would help Amazon recoup some of their losses so its a possibility; but to do that they'd have to accept that they aren't going to be able to build their data centers in the near future.
>>
>>544899866
Normie computer GPUs have silly prices because production has been prioritised for AI chips.

Communism was actually efficient at using resources at scale, such as for gigantic projects, where communism was terrible was using resources for consumers. Although China is now good at both by making a hybrid system.

It means that they made no profit and took a $7.6 billion loss over the quarter. It doesn't just mean that they lost $7.6 Billion. It means that when you total their sales vs their expenses they ended up $7.6 billion in the red for a quarter of the year.

That's significant. To cancel out the profits they make off all their other sales those GPUs must be costing them a lot more than just $7.6 Billion which is a significant amount of money to any company even one as huge as Amazon.

>>544899886
>This inefficiency costs all of us money nigger

So does wasteful government spending. At least when a company is inefficient it they lose their money instead of your money. There are no consequences for the government, they don't care if they waste your money.

>NVIDIA GB300

Yeah, so if that's the chipset we're talking about and they can't break them down into components for sale on the consumer market then they aren't going to be helping PC hardware prices.

Amazon would be more likely to try and sell them to other companies trying to build data centers, ones that have the electricity they need to make use of them. Or they'll keep hording them in hopes they'll be able to get the electricity they need in the near future.

The problem is that these things aren't even really GPUs at all. They still get referred to as such, but they're not actually general purpose graphics cards suitable for use in a normal computer. They're specialized for running AI models to such a degree they they'd likely perform worse for things like gaming and 3d modeling than a 5090, despite costing 10x as much.

Stock market has nothing to do with capitalism. It is pure socialism on company scale where every single loss hits the stock holders and every single gain is gain for the few chosen ones. It is typical how communism worked and why it did fail. And this is why US economy is failing. Because it stopped being capitalist economy and became share holder economy just like in communism where economy belonged to the people.

The future is local AI
If you have NVIDIA 30xx or 40xx or possibly other models, look for a "gpu unlock" to un-nerf it and increase instruction issuance rate to the professional model level - a free performance boost
It speeds up inferences maybe 10% and much more (e.g. for training) at the same fixed wattage

It's artificial scarcity and any government who gave a shit about its citizens would put a stop to it. It was 2 years ago now that Bezos compared internet hosting in the 90s to hardware hosting today, saying that in the 90s internet hosting wasn't consolidated at all. Lots of people were hosting their own websites & a wide variety of options were out there. Now, 2 webhosts host 80% of the internet. He sais he sees hardware going the same way and then starts buying up GPUs like they're candy.

They're literally trying to create a future where compute is rented instead of owned. They're not even hiding it.

I told you last year, they bought everything in advance but building up warehouse is slower than you'd think and now they are waiting for shit to be finished, maybe in 1 or 2 years for the first wave, and they will have all this already obsolete hardware to use for them instead of 2029 tech.
I wouldn't be surprised if they decide to just put all those GPU and rams in a grinder instead of admitting they didn't use them.

Infrastructure such as electricity generation and a high capacity power grid and transformers are missing. It doesn't matter how much you spend on hardware, if the infrastructure can't support what you want to build and now there is no money left over to build the infrastructure.

>invisible hand of the market
The AI ponzi is being driven almost exclusively from ridiculous levels of public debt and money printing being funneled into state sponsored data centers and tech. In other words, you personally eat a loss via constant monetary inflation. I know that doesn't apply to Amazog here, but the chip shortage just screams artifical scarcity like they already do with housing in the west. There's tons of chips out there, but it's more profitable for these companies to make them collect dust in a warehouse and keep the price jacked up 600%
