I am contemplating teaching my children Chinese. They know English and German. What are your thoughts on teaching children Chinese? I don’t speak any so it will likely be difficult to teach them.
>>
Why Chinese? I think you should let your kids be kids and do what they want besides retarded shit. Why make them suffer by learning a useless language? Unless you plan to take them on vacation, I'd say you're being overbearing.

I meant mostly give then exposure to the language. They’re still under 5. The why Chinese is that I expect China to become the main player in the global economy by the time my children are of age.

By exposure I mean this: my kids have about 0-20 minutes of screen time per day. When they watch something, we watch it in German because they are exposed to English much more than German so it’s good for them to hear other people but their family speak German. I could start letting them watch shows and movies in Chinese instead.

If you already know German I would stick with that. I don't think Chinese will be relevant. I remember in middle school my friend took Chinese because he thought they would be running the world by now. He never stuck with it because he doesn't enjoy Chinese culture. At least with German you can enjoy food and drinks, music, and movies, and travel there. Chinese is much more limiting unless you're Chinese or Eastern Asian.

I don't think expecting China to become the main player in the global economy by the time your children are of age is a good enough reason to have them sacrifice German skills for Chinese.

Fair enough. I’ve never even been to China. With your perspective of learning a language for culture, Spanish would be a good candidate because of surfing.

I'm under the belief that being able to use the language is more useful for retaining the knowledge. I have a Spanish American friend and his mom taught him Spanish and he is fluent because he goes to Spain frequently. I couldn't stick any foreign languages until I regularly indulged in the culture through music, movies, recipes, etc.

If they're over 12 it's pointless once the grow hair and pop boobs. Get them a ps5 or makeup. They're retarded for a couple years chasing each other around until about 25.

I am convinced that people telling me my hormones would slow down after 25 was a psyop.

learning a different language is the biggest goypill of them all. there is already voice translation software that can let you talk to a fucking sentinelese, and with AI it will get even better. you dont need a second language unless you live in cucknada o algo. and no one wants to learn ching chong ping pong enough of that crap
>>

it's easier for a kid to learn a foreign language than an adult. do it. why not?

>What are your thoughts on teaching children Chinese?
Have them play Read Dead Online, and get mogged by an angry posse of five chinks on horseback. They'll learn REAL Chinese real quick.
>>
>>544907514
Do not learn Mandarin.
>>
>>544908103
It's already a major player in the global economy and has been for decades, and still almost nobody outside of China speaks Chinese because most of its population never fucking leaves. English is the language of trade and ideas; it has the same syllabic information density as Chinese, but with a fraction of the written complexity.

I agree with this. I only learned German because my wife is Austrian and we travel there once a year. Her parents don’t speak English and she speaks German in the house.
>>544909092
Nah translators don’t work for experiencing culture. I just got back from Japan for work and the language barrier is real.
>>544909253
I am amazed at how quick my little ones pick up German. I feel like by them hearing it at this age they learn it.
>>
Don't do it, it's way too much effort
It's an entirely different language system
>>
Do it, they can be a spy for the cia

what reason is there to learn mandarin other that to pick up chinese women?
it is barely spoken outside of china, and is notoriously one of the most difficult foreign languages to learn.
a foreigner knowing how to speak chinese is an automatic red flag.

If you are trying to teach your child Chinese believing it will boost their career or job prospects, that is a misconception.

For your child to land a job where Chinese is truly useful, they would have to compete with native millions Chinese speakers who are fluent in English and willing to work for just 30% of your salary, a battle your child simply cannot win.

If the motivation stems from an interest in Chinese classics or culture, it might have some value, however, most classical works are already translated, meaning there is no real need to learn a foreign language unless they plan to study it at an academic level.

Yea starting to feel that way too. Good discussion frens. I’ll probably continue to teach them German and maybe Spanish because we like going to surf in Central America.
