Britain was putting more investment into Argentina than it did Australia, and it is a giant blank slate of land with huge scope for farming, wine, leather and even oil at that point. The way the international monetary system works is if your country has anything of value the banks load you up with debt for stage 1, stage 2 is they devalue your currency so you can never repay the debt and as a side effect the savings of everyone in that country is wiped out and they now have to work for peanuts and international investors take everything of value and the locals produce it for practically nothing, and then in phase three they get pissed off so you have to put them down with a junta unless you can fool them into thinking they can somehow vote their way out of trouble lmao
