The idea that all babies especially the unbaptized enter heaven is a contemporary idea. The Catholic Church for instance supposes that the mercy of god is on those "innocents" who according to their own theology still carry original sin meaning if they were to die at 7 which then makes them morally culpable it honestly is better to not even think about such a topic.

I was reading one of the early church fathers (I think Ambrose) and he goes on a tangent at one point about how God doesn't want most souls to have the experience of a whole life in this world. That threw me off so I looked it up and apparently in his day about 20% of pregnancies were miscarriages and over 50% of children would die before reaching adulthood, and that didn't substantially change until the 19th century. Imagine what he would think if he learned we fixed that but then people wanted to start killing huge numbers of babies on purpose because whoring around was more important to them than the lives of their children. And they could also prevent conception with a greater than 99% success rate but it makes sex feel slightly less good.
