Americans are the textbook definition of having a superiority complex.Most Frenchmen dont think about them at all, but once you look at american media they mock french by calling them snobs (as if that was a bad thing), intellectuals, eating frogs, smelling bad, etc.They hate France because it represents the pinnacle of human culture, civilisation, and organic growth which is something the US lacks (it had to steal nazi scientists to build its space program, for example)
