In the 1990s, there were cars with a 350-mile range that ran entirely on flywheels, no gasoline or batteries. The flywheels were small enough to fit entirely in the front trunk. The company went bankrupt because the system was so powerful and dangerous that they couldn’t figure out how to build adequate armor around it. Basically, it was too powerful to secure, so they abandoned the idea. I think we could bring it back and integrate it with the electric highway concept.

>>544987816>ran entirely on flywheels, no gasoline or batteriesNigger, what?
>>544987816Wtf is a flywheel? A wind up car?
>>544988118Yes. It sounds unbelievable but they actually did it. Switzerland even ran electric trains with this back in the late 1940s.
>>544987816Flywheels have to get their kinetic energy from somewhere, Sandeep.
>>544988122>>544988118Unlimited energy

I don't want to sit next to a time bomb at a stop light. We need to make fuel for vehicles out of a renewable resource like trees.
https://www.reddit.com/r/WeirdWheels/comments/1j91ih3/this_is_the_1994_afs20_flywheel_battery_concept/
>>544988238Daddy
>>544988279It's essentially a bomb. The flywheels were lightning fast it's unbelievably dangerous. Could take out a small neighbourhood if it's exposed without the vacuum.
>>544988194>It sounds unbelievable but they actually did it.Where have i heard this before ...
>>544988238Look into Swiss Gyrobus. Basically a supercapacitor bus that ran with flywheels alone. It ran couple miles and it recharged itself from the electric lines above. 40s tech.
>>544988284uh ooohhh we have a Predditor
>>544988533WHAT POWERED THE FLYWHEELS?
>>544988533it could also spin the flywheel back up when it went downhill for extra range.
>>544988681Electric lines. It's easier and faster to charge/discharge.
This is like Matrix human battery logic. “Ooh the machines use humans for electricity! All they need is a type of fusion and they get all the power they need”. Nigger all you need is the fusion, why do you bother with all the humans??At any rate, these need electricity to wind the flywheels. How is this not another electric car?
The best way to store energy is gasoline, in a steel container, sealed.Batteries lose energy over time.
>>544987816A modded to shit Chrysler? Why not buy a PT Cruiser instead, at least it got to marketability.
>>544988707Show me a diagram how electric lines power the flywheel.
>>544988685Funny thing is flywheels are evolved to maglev now so we could actually double the range. 500-600 it can do with today's tech.
>>544988533so an electric bus, are you retarded?
>>544988533We still have that. Although now it's with electromotors
>>544988834I will.
>>544988837How do powerfline make a flywheel spin? Will you explain? If not, just say: "I will not tell you the secret."
>>544987816Coolest part about this is how in the fuck did they manage to make a steerable car carrying that much rotational inertia. I bet it handled like shit but that's amazing none the less lmao.
>>544988707so your car is powered by beyblades that you spin up before go off because beyblades store energy better than batteries?
>>544988932But what made the flywheel spin?
>>544988947
>>544988963Well the flywheel could power your house if it can power a car.So why isn't anyone using them?THIS IS WHY I SAY BULLSHIT.
>>544987816Look up the aero civic. A guy home built a civil that goes 65mph and gets 95mph.Also Luigi colani built a 180mpg car in the 1980s.Jews ruin humanity.
>>544988997Electricity. Flywheels are 95 percent efficient.
>>544988118A motor spins a disk to store kinetic energy. You gear it to a generator and it turns the kinetic back into electric. Sa.e as a battery electric vehicle, but you store the energy kinetically and not chemically.
>>544989062>why isn't anyone using them?Because when they fail catastrophically it's basically a high powered shrapnel bomb going off. Every wondered why the power grids operate at a specific frequency? It's because that's as fast as they can safely spin the massive objects generating the power.
>>544989020So it's an electric motor that spins the flywheel. Why go through the extra steps? You lose energy using extra steps.Like making electricy to split h2o to make hydrogen. It's more efficient to just use the electricity to turn a motor.
>>544988973yes retard
>>544988773I bet matrix was about them harvesting brains for compute power. Electricity is just easier for the public to understand.
>>544988194flywheels just store energy. they could maybe add some efficiency, storing energy during breaking and stopping. But probably not enough to counter the massive weight of flywheels.OP is a retarded faggot
>>544989177>but you store the energy kinetically and not chemicallythis will go past 99% of /pol/'s comprehension
>>544989234It's made out of common materials. Low tech works easy.
>>544989301Battery make electricity with chemicals.Flywheel make electricity by putting Spinny thing on generator.
>>544987816Literally impossible. We are talking impossible by several orders of magnitude.
>>544987816Meds.
>>544988061Those cables are SUPER thin, if they snap pulling the kind of power that car needs to accelerate it'll tear you in half. Quite literally. That is a scary vehicle.

>>544987816>>544988061>>544988100This looks cool af until you see it from any other angle
>>544989457I don't think it was a scam as much as it was super dangerous. a fly wheel could propel a vehicle, but you're limited by number of stops, and you would need something to stop one of those wires from snapping and turning into a flying razor blade.
>>544988194>It sounds unbelievable but they actually did itit has a big ass electric motor and battery, dipshit
>>544988681Flies. We feared India would become a superpower with this technology, so we stole 9 trillion tons of their gold and burned the blueprints.
>>544989234>Why go through the extra steps? For storage. Duh.
>>544988194even Based Edison had an electric car before everyone else
>>544989249I always thought it might have something to do with using the brains as the "computer" running the world, since they never actaully showed a giant mainframe that could be destroyed to stop it.It makes more sense the AI would use a decentralized brain network because of the compute power, but it would take time to explain it to the audience. Slowing the movies down.
>>544989457It's not free energy dude. It's a battery storage tech. Flywheels have the highest efficiency since it runs in a vaccum.
>>544989567They use electric propulsion dummy. Lol. Flywheel is just energy storage.

>>544989636Whatever you say memeflag
>>544989693Yes. The original cars were made for regular oil.
>>544989643Those flywheels move. They aren't inert. It's not inert energy. The kinetic momentum is what drives it forward the batteries only provide the initial thrust. That's why stopping repeatedly would be really bad in this vehicle....among other things, like a fly wheel that could snap and turn into a guillotine.

Flywheel is mechanical supercapacitor. It's not free energy. It doesn't violate any thermodynamics. It's just that good.
>>544989231What a beautiful way to explain it, yoink
>>544987816Op wants to fuck with everyone. While it works, the cost is to high to produce, even with today's technology.
>>544987816No faggot, it failed because of price. The tech is real, which is why it is absolutely essential not to mislead people about it.
>>544990524>While it works, the cost is to high to produce, even with today's technology. What? It's a flywheel dumbass. It might require carbon fibers but it doesn't get bad. You don't need to change batteries.
>>544990620Who cares about price? Elons Roadster is priced half a million, if it's cool, everybody loves to own it.
>>544989736It was a thing apparently.Feasible, but not practical.
>>544990359you're a fucking retard. There is a literal battery and motor in pic. It's basically a very dangerous and heavy version or regenerative breaking. Failed for a reason.
>>544989875You retard the flywheels spin generators. They are not interacting 200,000 RPM flywheels to the car wheels with a transmission.
>>544990500Laws of thermodynamics are largely pointless because nothing is a closed system.
>>544990691You have to produce a vacuum chamber, which requires extreme hardening. With enormous centrifugal forces inside, which produce huge drags during driving and fall apart if there is even a slightest microscopic flaw in the chamber. Kers was used in the Formular 1 as additional boost, but building it as a primary Antrieb can hardly be estimated and would likely surpass a million, which does not take into the account what at any step during the building process something might have.a minimal defects and your million goes down the drain.

careful OP, they might Amy Eskridge your ass just for tawkin about oil-free energy.i saw a nat-gas powered Honda a few years ago, for the first time, and it blew my mind. turns out it's not efficient.
>>544989659sounds super dangerous. pass
>>544989234the pic of the gyrobus at a stop shows that it only has contact to electricity there, while stationary. i suppose this time is used to accelerate the flywheel to work rpm 3000. then this would be sufficient to keep the bus going until the next stop and external impulse. pretty cool. a lot of kinetic energy involved. the swiss know how though.
>>544991508To charge the vehicle initially, it was plugged into a standard electrical outlet, using power from the grid to spin the flywheels up to their extreme RPMs. On the road, the car used regenerative braking. When slowing down, the drive motor reversed to act as a generator, capturing the car's forward momentum and using it to spin the flywheels back up to speed• The Power Generation (The Flywheels): Each carbon-fiber flywheel was paired with an integrated motor-alternator and permanent magnets. As the flywheels spun in a vacuum chamber, the magnets induced an electrical current.• The Propulsion: When the driver pressed the accelerator, an electronic controller "drew down" that generated electricity from the flywheels and fed it directly to a standard electric automobile traction motor to turn the car's wheels
>>544987816Fat people coast further.
>>544987816>the electric highway concept.lol
>>544991720The Swiss still do it with supercapacitors. They love the tech.
>>544987816Yeah I cant imagine why they scrapped tens of megajoules if force in a thousand pound mass rotating at tens of thousands of rpms.
It is pretty tragic how before whites were ethnically replaced and costs became prohibitively expensive our countries and people were constantly inspired and optimistic and you got these crazy experiments that actually worked all the time. How far we've fallen as a civilization. In 2000 years people will look back on this time as a dark age worse than all that came before
>>544989177So what advantage does that have over a battery?
>>544992230Those were 90s limitations.
>>544988374flywheel is a codeword for mini nuke
>>544987816bullshit.The rpms required would cause the flywheel to fly apart. The motor to spin the flywheel up to speed would also be of significant size and weight. So now, you've got two objects with significant weight that also have to be carted around all the time.
>>544988533>flywheel spinning at 2 million RPM>molecular defect occurs and causes imbalance >bus explodes and flywheel slices through a building yeah no
