The Repubilcan party used to dominate congress and politics. This changed in 1929 when the stock market crashed, and FDR seized total control of the US government. He started seizing major industries implementing socialist reforms, his agriculture mandates caused the Great Dust Bowl. He threatened to end the Supreme Court, and refused to leave after 2 terms. He dramatically transformed US society in a leftward direction.It's likely the Federal Reserve was created 10 years before specifically to crash the economy to allow FDR to transform the US into a socialist/communist society. The nature of the Fed is to create an unsustainable financial system that will crash the economy and lead to socialism. Today we are stuck with this broken financial system, and the socialist aftermath of FDR's bloodbath.

Democrats were divided between populists and bourbon conservatives, and the populists took over for until Woodrow Wilson came along. Wilson was backed by many Republican donors but he ran on a platform opposed to big business.
