The significance of Democrats taking Congress lies in their ability to launch investigations into the Trump administration and, specifically if they win the Senate, their ability to block Trump's political nominations
That might not sound that significant, but consider that the next president will almost certainly be a Democrat
That means there will be at least a six year window (2027-2032) where Democrats will have a say and/or total control of selecting SCOTUS justices, who are seated for life
Clarence Thomas has been on the bench since 1991 and he's the same age Scalia was when he died in his sleep.
Samuel Alito is only two years younger and already talking about retirement.
Those are the two most conservative justices on the court. If Democrats are able to pick their replacements, that is a massive, massive swing for the bench, potentially making it the first liberal SCOTUS since the 60s.
