In Britain Islam is very much tied to appearance and culture. And that appearance and culture is anyone who looks Pakistani/Indian. Brits won't take seriously a black Jamaican man who converts to Islam for example or a white ginger man who converts to Islam. It just doesn't fit with what Brits identify as "Muslim" which is basically anyone with an Indian phenotype and Indian culture. For Brits either you look like pic related or you're not really taken seriously as a Muslim. Even paler Arabs are excluded!
