Nominal GDP is extremely unreliable, if you sanction a country out of the global exchange markets, it's nominal GDP could even half overnight, without any significant crisis or loss of productivity. Literally all it would take to completely revamp Nominal GDP ranking, would be for the "global south" countries to mutually use their own currencies in trade, and eschew the dollar/euro, that would increase the national currency value, and decrease the value of the dollar/euro in the international market, and therefore their nominal GDP.
