Kids growing up in the 2000s couldn't enjoy the culture thoroughly and were taught to survive in an era that doesn't exist anymore. They were raised through back-to-back recessions and now have to figure out how to navigate an unregulated techno-fascist world and adapt to society-changing events on a year by year basis. Not to mention cultural degradation where bad behavior is incentivized more than ever caused by overreliance of internet and social media, all control by billionaires. It's no wonder most young people only see the future as hopeless.
