FYI Hindus will pray to tons of things for tons of reasons.
I learned this from an Indian movie, actually. It's a comedy and there's a scene in it where a guy sets up something that looks vaguely like a shrine outside of a college and films students stopping to pray for good grades. I asked an Indian acquaintance about the realism of this and he said its absolutely could happen.
