It all comes down to ego, people have their ego hurt when they spend years upon years of their life learning how to code only for an AI to be infinately better than them in every way.

People simply cannot seperate themselves from their jealousy, envy and greed

Everyone knows that learning a specialized skill like coding, some management role, being a mathematician, can only be learned once in life, the second attempt will see much worse results.
Also, one only has the time for two or three of these attempts, at life-shattering economic loss.
So these roles with decade+ learning curves were protected by societal contracts.

Now, all of them get rugged nearly simultaneously. Retraining into trades is infeasible, too, because once you weaseled your way into a position to open a trades business, some gigacorp takes every niche with Unitree/UBTech/Hyundai/whatever robots.

The proposed solution is total dependency on the government, via UBI taxation. Of course, this can only lead to government overreach, ideological purity spirals, economic incarceration, mass suffering.

People who can't program don't understand, but the code AI writes is really, genuinely fucking garbage. And by "can't program," I also mean the boot-camp web dev type retards, even the ones who have a "senior" title. They have been shitting everything up for many years already with atrocious amounts of tooling, copy/pasting from stackoverflow, and using gargantuan frameworks in an attempt to avoid writing code.

It should be obvious when the average web app, maybe something that lets you add an entry into a database, takes orders of magnitude more resources than what the Apollo program needed to reach the moon.

And the pro-AI dumbasses continually claim that it's not garbage, and "two more weeks" and it's going to match a human programmer. But then we see, as in the Anthropic source leak, they are doing shit like putting the main loop in a print function with 3.5k lines. Again, you don't understand how bad it is because you don't program, you just see that it somewhat kinda works (at least, it's a million times better than what YOU could program). But that's because you fucking normies are so used to being shoveled shit, you've started to like the taste.

Yeah, the main issue with using AI for mass changes is that it compounds problems upon problems. It might still technically compile and "work", but it wont be performative, it will have huge UI and usability issues, etc.
So devs like me have to tard wrangle AI output and its a fucking soul sucking endeavor. That's why I prefer to manually code the hard stuff and make AI do boilerplate crap that's impossible to fuck up.

I don’t have it handy but there’s one of those bell curve memes where the wizard and the grug are both saying “just type what you want into Claude” and the midwit is trying to do complicated agentic workflows and shit

It’s basically true, I’m on the wizard side and I just start my prompt with like “bruh today we deploy a staging Prometheus server get to it” and it fucking happens

People who don’t get this yet are not gonna make it. It will be just like the initial adoption of PCs in the 80s… some think it’s a fad, some realize it is inevitably going to take over everything

Now remember the gold rush lesson: to get rich, sell shovels, don’t dig for gold. Attach yourself to the value stream and let those who have less to lose go and explore the edges. Sure, some of them will strike it rich, but most will churn on failing products nobody hears of. All of them will need processors and ram and nice desk chairs….

>“just type what you want into Claude” and the midwit is trying to do complicated agentic workflows and shit
Its because they're dealing with different things. AI is really good at blank slate development with small change sets. Your example of setting up a server for instance is very manageable. The entire server config can sit in the context window. There's not really that much going on.
Now take a repo with hundreds of classes, hundreds of dependencies, complex requirements and inputs that are often not defined in the repo and are external to that repo and have AI try to make changes in there. It just cannot keep up the context to make sensible changes, leading to that "tard wrangling" feeling.

Every single time I use AI in personal small projects I feel like a god. Compare that to how I use it at work for our dozens upon dozens of production repos for our different APIs and CMPs and its night and day. It all comes down to context and complexity, and of course a personal project to download tagged fap content from Mastadon is going to be much more straightforward to work in.

It'd really complex.

I am a programmer. Projects are complex. Parts must work and fit.

For a project, a very detailed set of prompts must be carefully worded.

It can be done, but you'll never get the holes like you can see them while designing the algorhythm.

It will blow when an item is out of range, a file too long, or whatever.

It can assist pretty good, though.

The biggest cope was convincing brain dead normies that hand written coded projects were superior to AI written ones. With human projects it takes fucking years of uselessness and powertripping troons saying shit like "use case for functionality?" Atleast with AI you can slam together a project in a week that is mostly bug free and get the problem solved.

When you add up the time I waste trying to get AI to do something, the time I waste trying to catch the errors, and the time I waste trying to correct the errors I missed until later, then it isn't worth it. Then we try setting up AI to check the AI and it's the same thing but with that agent instead. I can imagine Xzibit in my head saying, "yo dog, I heard you like AI, So now you can use AI to correct the AI that is supposed to be checking your AI."

What do you think of something else, like AI movies? Do you think that if there were just loads more movies, like hundreds of thousands a year, would that be good, even if 99%+ were absolute dog shit? Does that mean you're more or less likely to find something watchable, as a consumer? Software as an industry is sick and churns out garbage, the solution isn't just to make more garbage. Maybe I'm out of the loop, but I have never been excited for an AI movie, they all look like absolute trash. I don't understand how fucked up a person's standards have to be accept, much less be excited for anything AI makes.

The root tension is seen here >>545142708
It's between minimalist soicism and hyperscale "unused RAM is wasted RAM" or "CPU time is cheaper than development time" philosophy.
Linux was always the "Bazaar" model which invites human slop, but people tolerated it via a social contract regarding open-source auditability.
LLMs generate slop faster than they can be audited, which basically kills the social contract.
You can use LLMs in a manner to debloat, understand a codebase rather than generating code, or enforcing a stoic ethos, but because "AI" is a broad and ambiguous term, the knee-jerk approach is to keep doing the hyperscale thing, in part because LLMs are themselves built by hyperscale.
This results in unauditable slop, with poor ability to differentiate.
There are also the copyright problems that are still working through the courts.

Tell me, how would you feel if you didn’t have breakfast this morning?

>>545142708
The thing is, AI was learning on examples from meat bags, and those examples obviously included not only textbook coding, but also a lot of pajeet spaghetti code, retard code, poison-colored-hair code, intern code, etc. So obviously it won't be "beautiful". But it works. And it's made much faster than any human could hope to write.
Not to mention, since there's a lot of humans asking it to make this and that, there never was so much of your "professional programmers" who could hope to compete with this amount of output for basically free, much less who would also work of niche and "for fun" projects, or those in gray zone.
This is basically the same argument that had artists a few years back. Machine simply outperform meat bags, even if the results are faulty but in "good enough" category.

Almost all of the performance gains in the last six months have come from RL environments. Those environments use code that is overwhelmingly written by LLMs. Human codebases were used for pre-training on models 6 months ago, but that isn't really relevant now. Pre-training only takes up around 10% of compute costs for training models now- it's all going to post-training in synthetic environments. The pre-training simply establishes the semantic baseline from where RLVR takes off.

Your understanding is outdated.
>>
>>545146339
>Human codebases were used for pre-training on models 6 months ago

That's because so many "devs" are jeets. You should understand this by now.
White coders don't get out-deved by AI slop. They may still use AI as part of their workflow, but all the jeets saying "Saaaaaar AI is the future it will replace all codetrans cope and seethe!" were tech mahindra jeets who got their experience doing 1 line github pulls to build up their "portfolio".
>>
>>545147385
You have been outdated. Probably you don't code yourself that's why. AI tools have evolved much more than you think. They can beat teams of devs. I don't care if you believe it or not. It's the truth at least for web apps.
>>
>>545146955
Apparently he recently (in this month) tried to use AI to experiment and AI fixed a lot of know problems in Linux, and found some that were overlooked for decades. So after that he changed his tune, saying that it it's the tool's fault for the bad code, but the retards who using it without understanding how. Or something like this.
>>
>>545140853
It'll kill code and software as something that holds value. It does prove that Stallman was correct and that everything in the end will be open source software as the code behind it will be able to be refactored in the future. If you give an advanced LLM model the source code of a working application and task it to rewrite the thing and make it work in another language it does really well at that with minimal human intervention currently. The technology to do this will improve and eventually every piece of open source software loses actual market value. Why would you pay if you can task the machine to recreate and refactor it? How you can you prove digital theft in a court in that case? The legal dimension will be especially difficult with this.

I guess the end state will be that big institutions like governments, banks, traditional businesses that do things outside of software will dictate the worth of software. Because the pre approved programs they use will have additional verification mechanisms creating value, rather than just software itself.
>>
>>545147503
I'm a software dev with over a decade of experience, and you're some fat oily greek man. Of course I don't believe you because you almost certainly have never coded in your entire life.
>>
>>545147644
It's a tool and its effectiveness is dependent on how skilled the user is at writing proper questions. Something most older / senior programmers should be pretty great at considering how stackoverflow was.

>>545147385
The jeets are the first ones to go, and many businesses have already started to let them go. LLM models are at a point where they are excellent tools with a human expert in the loop. With LLM a senior dev can increase his output for simple tasks many fold. The senior dev can also review if the llm made a mistake or not, the jeets just ship it. Then why would you hire a team of jeets that ends up being almost as expensive as a single senior dev?
>>
If AI is good why are you afraid to disclose it?
>>
>>545146928
The code solves a business problem and many business problems need contexts that isn't even logged anywhere not even some pdf document. If you want to use an AI you need to give it context and hope it picks the right answer. To evaluate this you still need someone smart and capable as a dev, you can't automate a lot of flows. A lot of things that could be automated were already through scripts / stored procedures. Writing this automation with AI is easier but you should know what you're doing since you try to solve a business problem not a technical one.

If you want AI to copy paste an open source app but with a different front end, and maybe some backend adjustments you'll get very far with limited knowledge. That's much easier to do than in the past.
>>
>>545143099
At least the AI answers and writes in perfect English. A novel LLM model gives you output in 30 seconds instead of 30 business days.
