These giga companies does not do R&D, instead they buy small startups for premium money and incorporate their technology into their own platforms. That means that they lack their own R&D competence and have no real competence in judging what they buy. Older software is way better than new software, ancient utorrent from 2006 consumes 50 megabytes of RAM while handling 1000 torrents, modern software like qbittorrent consumes 1000 gigabytes of ram for the same task. A modern programmer has never really studied algorithms, data structures and complexity, because he just bypasses all that by using enormous bloated software libraries with huge amounts of functions. He is never going to design his own algorithms and data structures. These libraries bring their own security holes and bugs with them together with tremendous ineffiency. But that doesnt matter, says the modern programmer, because we have multiple superscalar out-of-order cores, 5000 megahertz and scores of gigabytes of ram, while you had one twin issue in-order core, a few hundred megahertz, and 0.015625 gigabytes (16 megabytes) of ram. Then they waste all your hardware power on producing backdoor filled garbage that does the same job as your 20 year old hand crafted software but with enormously higher hardware requirements.
