How were the neocons any worse than Trump and MAGA, or were all that bad at all? I just turned 28, so I was a kid in the 2000s and barely remember what politics was like back then. There’s all this talk of how “neocons” like Bush, Cheney, etc. were allegedly pure evil and that America needs to be purged of anything “neocon.” But how were they really all that worse than what America has now with Trump? The 2000s seemed incredibly blissful compared to today. I get that people were upset about the Iraq War but was that really the fault of the neocons or just typical American imperialism?Neocons were smart. MAGAts are stupid. Smart is objectively preferable to stupid.Also, the “Straussian cabal” doesn’t exist, but if it did, so what? Leo Strauss was actually quite based. He was very pro-traditionalism and endlessly called out the moral relativism and lack of virtue in politics which lead to the degeneracy we see today. He also supported fascism originally on the basis it was a “return to Rome” (wanted to join the Nazis but couldn’t because he was Jewish) and even called out Carl Schmitt for not being anti-liberal and reactionary enough. Wouldn’t we support “Straussians” in politics?
