I like the idea but have rarely used one when was living in a place that had one. In my home now, i don't and never thought to install one. I have a small metal counter trash bin that sits by the sink and i throw the unused veggie bits and peels and other organic scraps in that then take it out back to throw in my compost box

>>545236263>Does the food actually go down the pipes or does it just get crushed and mashed?I think at one time there may have been versions with a split reservoir where solids get centrifuged into a divorced section and water runs down a different path but as long as I've been around they're all single path straight through units that honestly do a pretty shit job at blending solids up and pass it down to the sewer with the water you're supposed to run while it's in use. After doing some work with plumbing and septic and seeing lots of people's setups and the problems they run into I recommend against disposals for just about everyone. They're just more trouble than they're worth because if you actually read the manual for the things they aren't rated to do nearly what people assume, so if you're using them responsibly you are having to do so much sorting anyway you may as well just compost yourself. Garbage disposals are up there with flushable wetwipes in terms of products that just create a robbing peter to pay paul situation. Someone's going to have to do the dirty work of wiping your nasty ass or sorting food scraps. You can either do it yourself now, or postpone it for the septic/sewer snake guy later but someone's going to have to do it and if it isn't you, you're going to be paying them a premium when the time comes.
