Why do Christians hate Halloween?
>>
wtf
>>
>>545248336
Because it's vaguely associated with pagan festivals despite being co-opted by Catholics long ago (granted, Catholics don't exactly jive with prots most of the time anyway but that's its own issue).
It is a general commemoration of dead saints which do not already have a dedicated feast day. That's where names like "All Hallow's Eve" and "All Saints Day" come from.

The realms are and must remain separated.
If you wanna contact your passed away relatives or friends you can only do so with Gods permission and only through dreams.

Nah its because Halloween competes with All Saints Day which is 1st November and people disguising themselves as witches, demons, evil spirits etc. My cousin became a zealous catholic 6 years ago and in opposition to Halloween and they celebrate Holywins or some cringe shit like that where they go to church disguised as their favourite saint.
>>
>>545248594
>Because it's vaguely associated
Samhain isn't vague.
It's pretty upfront.

We dress as fae to hide ourselves from the spirits and we leave food out to appease the actual fae.
Where did we lose you?
>>
>>545248336
Why do they wear the mask?
>>
>>545250153
The festivities occured on the night prior to All Saints Day all the way back to the 9th century. It was never seen as a "competitor."

>>545250155
Samhain as a direct predecessor to Halloween is tenuous at best. The Nov 1 date for Samhain has basically zero evidence and 90% of popular depictions of the festival are a new-age/Wiccan reconstruction.
So yes, the association really is quite vague.

>NOOO, YOU CAN'T DO ANYTHING WITHOUT GOD'S PERMISSION, STOP TAKING CONTROL OF YOUR OWN EXISTENCE!

The mind of the christcuck is an enigma.
>>
>>545250333
Where they occurred, in Spain there were no festivities related to Halloween until now due USA culture exposure.
Nowadays its seen as competition, said so by priests, bishops and even some cardinals, thats why they came up with the Holywins alternative.

Are you implying Wiccans existed 1200 years ago?
Samhain isn't some abstract concept guy, it's a documented cultural/religious holiday. It predates Christianity and not one year in that time has it not been practiced, which is why it was so prevalent it survived into the modern age.
Lurk moar before posting.
If you partake in Halloween, you partake in Samhain. Your five seconds of google research ain't going to be enough for this conversation.

I would like to see any formal edict on the matter.
Ofc, the Catholic position is going to be "don't do the satanic Halloween shit." But actively discouraging its celebration is not something I've seen from any Catholic doctrine.

>>545250521
>Are you implying Wiccans existed 1200 years ago?
No. I'm saying 90% of popular impression of the festival is extremely modern. Contemporary documentation of the Samhain festival are sparse and what you think Samhain was is mostly a fantasy concocted by obese lesbians LARPing as witches.

Had you actually googled this, you'd know this.

Because the oposition isnt an official position endorsed and backed at the highest level but go to mass in October and odds are the priest is going to throw some antihalloween jabs here and there and defend the correct celebration these days is All Saints Day.

>>545248336
very, very, very few christians actually do. they just don't like the prevailing norm of dressing up like sluts because they hate sluts. every christian i've ever met dresses up for halloween, but they'll do something heady like dress up as a character from macbeth because they're also nerds
>>
>>545248336
I wonder what's the christian in your head look like.
>>
>>545248336
My hot take is that it has nothing to do with paganism or origins. Christians love christmas and easter after all. Not even much to do with the wanton idol worship which they have largely given up on. Or even that their christian forefathers also hated it. Christians have always opposed halloween because it is rife with degeneracy and mischief. Simple as.

The celts and anglo saxons considered a day to begin at sunset and end at sunset. So it would be from Oct 31 sunset to Nov 1 sunset. Catholics just co-opted local traditions and gods to bring people into their proto globohomo fold.
>>
>>545251620
Yeah, that is fair. And this was actually a concession I was going to grant you if the Samhain sperg piped up again.
Modern Halloween festivities with trick-or-treating and whatnot are very much an American cultural phenomenon that spread in the past century or so.
That anon is still incorrect about his fundamental claim that Samhain is a direct ancestor of Halloween. But it's not nearly as wrong to say that the modern Americanization of it can place its roots in the neo-pagan revivalism that occurred in America from the 19th century onwards.

So a closer-to-accurate synthesis would be something like:
>Samhain exists
>centuries after everyone stopped celebrating it, some Christian monks documented what the locals remember hearing their ancestors telling them of it
>parallel to this, Halloween exists as a somber demonstration of reverence to saints both canonized and forgotten
>a millennium later, neo-paganism makes a modest cultural footprint in the US
>vague alignment with the date of Samhain and Halloween is inferred from what documentation does exist
>many blanks are filled in and it gets co-opted as a secular celebration with the festivities we reconize today.
The "Holywins" thing is a very recent (early 2000's) informal pushback by the Catholic Church against the secularization of the recognized holiday.

Again, there's next to nothing indicating that was the actual date of the celebration and Samhain was a dead tradition before anyone wrote anything close to comprehensive about it. And prior to the last century or two, the observances of these two days were largely distinct.

It's referenced in texts from the 9th century all the way to the 19th century. Also considering that Halloween became more popular with a greater influx of irish immigration to the US in the 19th and 20th century it seems like the practice was not dead. Keep coping buddy. Keep listening to the church that tells you to let in infinity immigrants and wash nigger feet.

Because is a "pagan" thing, is funny because every Christian festivity is just a "pagan" rebranded thing
>>
>>545252580
He is right earlier christian church took old and pagan traditions and painted them their way to sway people into the flock, ancient local deities like dryads, forest spirits, goddesses of fertility etc were transmuted into "nah that was an apparition of the Virgin Mary, Jesus or Saint wathever".
All Saints Day may not be a Samhain mutation but they definetely took a pagan festivity around late October early November and made it theirs like they did with pretty much everything except Holy Week, even Christmas is fake, Jesus was born in April or May but dem pagans celebrated the December solstice so they had to trick them into thinking they were celebrating Jesus all this time.
Gotta admit is funny seeing christians seething at pagans and seculars doing to their festivities the same shit they did centuries ago.

You Christians (= spiritual Jews) shouldn't be celebrating our Pagan festivals regardless.

And yeah, you rebranding them to make them sound less Pagan doesn't actually make them any less PAGAN.

Happy Yule to all good Europeans out there! Heil Wotan! Heill Óðinn!

Christcucks are never going to realize jewish emnity towards Whites is because of Rome, not christkikery. Jews LOVE brown christians and use them as a battering ram against Whites all the time. When the jews refer to Whites in the negative, they call you "Rome", not "the church".

All western countries are children of Rome, inheriting their culture.
And its no coincidence that jews are also targeting western countries for destruction via mass immigration of non-whites.
>>
>>545253117
You're the one coping, dude.
I explicitly mentioned all the documentation referencing Samhain in my post. That documentation was written after the tradition had already been suppressed. Things like "guising" ans "souling," which the Irish and Scotts brought might have been a secular holdover of Samhain (even this is disputable but I'll grant it). But as a pagan tradition it had already been stamped out before Christian monks wrote anything about it.

>>545253328
The Christmas thing is another story that people often get very, very wrong. I'm not going to say the Catholics never shifted dates around and never engaged in syncretization, because they did. But 90% of the examples popularly cited are just historical illiteracy and neo-pagan romanticism.
>>
>>545253421
Fun fact about Yule: it's date was actually moved to align with Christmas and not the other way around. This is explicitly discussed in the Saga of Haakon the Good.
>>
Christians just hate fun
>>
>>545253421
Being Pagan is such a larp. It’s like Hindu for indians, it’s not a real religion. Your gods or demigods are fallen angels who foster idolatry.
