Basically despite being multiparty democratic republic, there are two major parties, kinda like republicans (PiS) and democrats (KO). For simplicity's sake democrats, who are now in power tried to seize the court with the help of the judges that the parliament voted, but whom are not legally judges due to them being required to take an oath in front of president, which republican president has refused. This is controversial take weather these judges are judges or not, and does president have right to refuse receiving oath from these judges, but since the court that is supposed to rule on these things is blocked, there is no one to give judgment on it. Yesterday basically crisis went to next level as Democrats, which whom Tusk is in charge and judges elected by sejm (polish parliament). went into building announced on dubious legal basis that they are freezing current chairman and vice-chairman of the Constitutional Tribunal from their duties and are seizing powers, both were voted in during previous republican government. At this point even moderates are questioning validity of democrats actions and situation is developing. President went yesterday to the constitutional tribunal and in essence prevented seizure. Situation developing.

Depending on how you want to stretch the definition, none of current judges were legally allowed, and if you were to grade order of magnitude, the ones selected by PiS were "less legal", so it's either ignorant or dishonest to only focus the way you did.The comparison to democrats and republicans is understandable when talking to a foreigner but it should be noted that neither KO or PiS are leftist or right wing, both are somewhat conservatively centrist and main difference on everyday basis is just that they don't like each other officially. They don't really do much of significance for the country when they are in position of power, whichever it is. Actual difference is that KO cares about international relations which results in Poland being able to use EU and NATO resources while PiS is only interested in constantly seeking out imaginary enemies to rally their voters against, not caring that they sometimes harm our diplomacy, and that PiS is prone to ruin our economy through socialist gibs.
