No it isn't. Especially not after actually opening the so-called Word of God. Nothing kills faith faster than that shit, although the flood narrative alone should keep anyone remotely intelligent away from religion.

>>asks of you only to believe in him

You're required to believe in the version of God formulated by the first council of Nicea in 325AD.

Otherwise you're a heretic and going to hell.

Also be part of the correct church - Catholics say they're the only official church approved by God and Protestants are heretics and going to hell. Protestants way Catholics corrupted God's original message and THEY'RE the heretics who are going to hell.

From an outsider's perspective it's all quite ridiculous.

The only people telling me that I need to believe in God are humans with agendas. I’m open to the idea of an intelligent designer architecting the universe, but that doesn’t mean it aligns with any of the retarded religious cults invented by humans.

I have been a Christian for years, but I have been looking more heavily into religion in general lately, and once I finally took away all of the fearmongering about Christianity, it started to fall apart for me and I am still coping and not ready to fully give it up, but I am just not as convinced of it anymore.
>>545255377
If you actually read into the Bible, and its origins, it starts to fall apart really fast if you have an IQ over 100.
>>545255888
This. I had to basically become a schizo to make myself believe in everything in Christianity, but now that that illusion is gone, I've been really questioning what I've been told all my life.
>>545255944
How do you truly overcome yourself anon? Do I have to sell all of my belongings and go channel my aura in the woods for the rest of my life?
>>545256128
>From an outsider's perspective it's all quite ridiculous.
A lot of it really doesn't make any sense, but I am told to just believe and have 'FAITH', and to stop questioning everything and to just read the Bible, because my problem is that I question everything and I just have to believe (what I was told by some family who're religious), and that just sounds like coercion to me, because I can't force myself to believe and once you actually read into the Bible and start asking questions, you naturally start to lose faith when things don't add up.

This, and especially from the religion that openly says that jews are so "special".

Check out
1. What the Buddha Taught by Walpola Rahula
2. The Heart if the Buddha's Teaching by Thich Nhat Hang
3. Jared Jones on YouTube (he has a PhD in how eastern meditation techniques relate to Western neuroscience, is a practicing Buddhist himself and makes a lot of videos, some replying to common Christian criticisms of Buddhism)
4. EricWestfallphilosophy on YouTube. He's similar to Jared Jones

I'm not about to join any organized religion but I've had an intellectual interest in it lately. It's really quite foreign to Western ways of thinking and takes a while for a Westerner like myself who was also raised Christian to wrap their mind around.

It's not so much about overcoming yourself in a Niezschian sense but letting go of attachment. Everything is impermanent. Everything. Clinging to impermanent things, wishing reality were otherwise, having the delusion or cognitive error that reality could be otherwise, is the cause of most of our suffering and distress.

The Buddha himself said his teachings were only a raft to get you to the other side of the river. A roadmap. If you cling to them you don't understand his point.
He didn't want people to "have faith" or blindly trust him in the Abrahamic sense. He just said follow this roadmap I've laid out and you'll find inner peace. See for yourself.
Monks and ascetics are only following a training regimen to fix the cognitive error they're suffering from. It's not a requirement though many of his early followers were lay people and had jobs and families.

Once you've fixed this cognitive error you can act in the world without attachment. And you'll naturally be compassionate and not have ill will towards "unenlightened" people.

That's my best attempt at a tl;Dr anyway

Like it's not inherently bad to work and make money, it's when you start thinking "I'll only be happy when I have X amount of dollars" or you become consumed by fear of losing the money you've already made is when it becomes clinging and causes you distress and suffering

Thank you anon I will check those out.
Also what are your thoughts on Julius Evola? I recently bought a book written by him, called "The Doctrine of Awakening: The Attainment of Self-Mastery According to the Earliest Buddhist Texts", but have yet to read it yet.
>I'm not about to join any organized religion but I've had an intellectual interest in it lately.
Same. I am conflicted, and even if I did it would probably be more for the community aspect of it because I go to Church on Sunday with my family.
>Once you've fixed this cognitive error you can act in the world without attachment. And you'll naturally be compassionate and not have ill will towards "unenlightened" people.

Maybe the answer you're searching for is to stop believing in abrahamic religions, because islam is just another offshoot of judaism, which I'm sure you don't like so cut it out anon.
-Even then, the original concept of hell isn't all eternal, and that's a modern invention by Christians used to scare people into mindless-obedience...First watch the videos I posted earlier, and then actually read what these abrahamic religions believe and break free from copium and find peace in reality by getting yourself into shape and becoming the best you that you can be.
>>
>>545262266
>that pic
I do all of that and didn't even try. I was never accepted by society and now normies are weak willed and fat compared to me and, again, I did nothing.

Based.
>>
>>545262266
Yeah I've read a bunch of Evola. Including Doctrine of Awakening.
I think it's not an accurate portrayal of Buddhism. He tries to force it to fit with his World of Tradition metaphysics but they're not really compatible imo
