if you grew up in the west, theres no book worth reading. every important work of politics or litearture or philosophy has already been baked into your upbringing

>>545254114true if you were born before 9/11 but kids these days are brought up on a non-eurocentric standard and should read the western canon.

>>545254114>dont read because anything important's already part of your programminglmao how much of a golem can you beGo read it and you see how much of it's just wankery and how much has been filtered and sanitized in your upbringing so you don't "get the wrong message" by accident. On the opposite you should read the shit that's not baked in. A good sign is if you can't find it in the library. Even famous authors have works that for reason or another just aren't there.
But sure reading's a bit overrated because the field (like any other) is 99% garbage and the flow of shit is unending. Like a net of bs to catch the occasional normie that thinks to themselves smart people read so I should read, so they don't veer off the accepted paths by accident.People frown at burning books but so much is literally better used as kindling. A worse crime is how many forests have been spent to print utter garbage.

>>545254074>i just want to have a massive block of time with no obligationsShould have went to sea.I work 4 months on 4 months off.Currently 2 months into my 4 months off. Just been sitting on my arse doing literally fuck all for 2 months. Going to vietnam for a month next week.Even onboard, we only work about 40-50 hours a week with half days at the weekends, sundays off if we're alongside. And all personal admin like laundry and cooking is done for you, so i get plenty of time to game on the communal consoles or on my laptop in my cabin.
>>545253826East of Eden by John Steinbeck- just a storyThe Cherry Orchard by Anton Chekov- irony of the aristocracy, but with an underlying tragedy. truly an actual conveyance of today's modern liberals who do not know what they are giving away while living above their means while being replaced by the newly wealthy field hands. Also given the timing of release of the story, communist propaganda as a reason to hate the aristocracy. It is a play but worth the read. don't think about anyone else's analysis while reading anything. read, digest it, think about it. give the story some time to percolate and analyze it yourself again over the years.
>>545253826The Dresden Files, they're enjoyable and not kiked too bad other than the ocassional girlboss.
