In one period, it was the growth of insurance companies that dealt with risk, in another period it was the global food supply chain. I.e. growth doesn't happen linearly across the economy but is actually concentrated int the new parts that are being 'mined'.When a stagnating country sees a relative economic surge, that's just that country catching up on the areas that other people have mined. This raises the question of whether we will run out of regions to mine. I think we will.
