Solid stable morals and values in a homogenous society allows similar people to have similar predictable outcomes under the same circumstances.When you toss entirely different people together with different values and morals and genetic differences to the same environmental pressures you get a wild chaotic result.Fluctuating morality to try and address that just makes it even less stable.Religion provided a stable value system to build on and with a homogenous population could create utopias.I miss the days when every person of every family no matter their job had the sabbath off whether I went to church or not because it meant everyone shared a day off and could get together and employers knew not to mess with that.So yes you need religion because it packages stability. But those same religions have sold out recently.I mean obviously promoting lgbtq stuff fragments families, promotes antinatal culture, leads to hiv and other disease epidemics that then spead to the general population, yet catholics and mormons just started embracing it when it got too big. So even institutional religion is just slower changing politics not distilled stable wisdom.
