He's hated the NFL since the 80s since they were one of the few people at the time to see right through his bullshit and wouldn't let him buy the Bills. So instead he bought the New York Generals in the upstart USFL which had initially started off fine as a spring league but then he used his clout to push the league to play in the fall as direct competition to the NFL. The move completely blew up in the league's face, but he wasn't deterred as his real plan was to sue his way to success like he does in everything else instead of competently running a business for once. While he did win his antitrust lawsuit against the NFL, all he was entitled to was one (1) buck and the USFL died a painful death regardless.

So yeah this is just another decades-long grudge of his because he is a petty little bitch
