Singapore, which is lauded as one of the lowest crime and least corrupt countries in the world. Had something interesting happen recently.40% of the bureaucracy, in mid level or higher positions. So think bureaucrats that work for the government of Singapore, owned properties within less than 1km of a railway station. They owned the properties before the stations were built, which means essentially half of the bureaucrats were using the information they had access to at work to buy properties for their personal enrichment and abused their access to do it. So, if a rail station was opened in 2005, and had been planned for a couple years previous, there would be a bunch of public transport employees that own apartments right next to it that they bought in 2004, 2003, 2002.It wasn't just the mid level bureaucrats that were buying the properties either. It was their relatives as well. 100,000 people are implicated, and that's a lot for a country with a small population. This is a problem for Singapore. It has some of the strictest anti corruption laws in the world. It also has a huge bureaucracy, and couldn't possibly prosecute half of it. And this wasn't the case that what they were doing just happened to not be illegal. It was very illegal for decades. It's been completely exposed that the Singapore bureaucracy have been engaging in corruption of an mass scale for decades.
>>545347786Singapore is 744.3 km. I'd imagine everyone buying property in Singapore is near public transport, not just politicians.
>singapore>Not corrupt LolLmaoJeet it up

I've literally never been to this place and never will, who cares what happens to it.
Everyone who can enrich themselves usually will, that's just a given. It's only a minority of whacky Christians who aren't like this. The only way to have real accountability for corruption is to have a king and one who hates corruption on principal to do something about it. The king and his friends will still be corrupt and enrich themselves at everybody's expense but at least the abuse is then limited to a handful of people that are vulnerable to being shot vs thousands of bureaucrats
>>545348308Singapore is a first world country, like Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Hong Kong
>>545348211I take a small box and fill it with red and blue marbles. You're going to reach in and grab a random marble. There are 744 marbles in total, and 274 are red. The odds of you picking a red are 37%. Do you really think it's that strange people live within 1km of railways?
>>545347786Can you just stop schizoposting nonsense and marry me already you fucking whore?
>>545348346A corrupt bureaucracy really destroys the productivity of a country. Basically every budget a government sets, they just have to take 10%-40% it as a loss due to corruption, and the country can't effectively allocate its budget anywhere.Like if the government funds a project to build 100 orphanages, and spends $50m to do it,it's just going to have to write off $20m as a loss by people in the middle taking a cut.
>>545348363False. We are a turdie shithole now that LKY is dead and Lawrence wong is in charge. Entirely enslaved by his MHA minister
>>545348442Except there aren't 744 new rail stations opening in Singapore every year. There's one, or two opening a year. It's not that they bought properties where there already were stations. If they bought property in 2000, and a station was built in 1995 right net to it, that would be completely fine. Tht's not what this is about it.They bought properties at future planned stations before these plans were public knowledge.
>>545348442>>545348744And if a Singaporean bought a property at a place where there already were a station, or the announcement was public, the easy access to public transport would be priced in.They were going and buying properties in the middle of nowhere, for Singapore standards, and buying property there, then 1 or 2 years later a station gets announced for being built next door to them. And they either keep the property for themselves, or sell it for 3x more than they paid.
>>545347786Yeah that was me. Just a coincidence that I bought cheap HDB that skyrcoketed in value 5 years later.
>>545349082>>545348635Is there a culture in Singapore, where,if a bureaucrat is trying to buy your apartment from you, then you know not to sell it?I'm just curious.
>>545348346Here's the solution:Dissolve the distinction between the private wealth of the king and the public treasury. It's his already, can't steal from yourself.People are selfish bastards. You cannot change this, so instead you need to design the world such that the best way to be a selfish bastard is to do what needs to be done.
>>545348011This. I live in Sydney and this city is bigger than the entire country of Singapore. Singapore is a small island of 700 square kilometres and it has an extensive MRT network. When I stay in Singapore I randomly choose a hotel within my budget and it always just happens to be near an MRT station. Pretty much everyone in Singapore is within walking distance of public transport.
As are every single other. Technology to make bureaucracy obsolete overnight.
>>545352196>>545348011Apparently you're incapable of understanding that new stations are being built.there are places in Singapore where there are apartments, but they're not close by Singaporean standards. Those apartments are a lot cheaper than an apartment right next to a station.Singapore is building 1-2 stations a year, and targeting areas there is the worst public transport access,so if you're a bureaucrat, and you find out that there is a new station planning to be built, and there is an apartment right nearby to where the station will be, and the apartments cost 3x less than apartments right next to stations in other districts. So you buy that apartment that is 10km from the nearest rail station, a year later it gets announced. The apartment you bought immediately is worth 2x as much, you can sell then and flip it for 2x profit,or wait for the station to be built and sell it for 3x profit.
>>545347786Singapore is a meme city state. Literally the most tutorial country out there. Their meme great leader got shot when he took over in the 60s the country would still be as rich as it is now.A LITERAL ISLAND, with most world cities larger than SingaporeA LITERAL MEME ECONOMY, situated in the richest trade route in the world. Its like playing a game and respawning in the rich area of the map.
