Speaking as an AME, weather is one of the most common items of aircrew fuckups in my experience. It always seems like its something that can be avoided, like you can use your weather radar to go around it, like its not gonna be a big deal. Combine that with the hassle that it can cause if the pilot calls off a flight due to bad weather leading to passengers angry and stranded and whatnot and plenty of pilots make terrible decisions just to keep things moving. Every so often the price of those decisions comes due. People are still just as stupid as ever, professional credentials and experience be damned.
>>
>>545353167
At first I was thinking why didn’t she give her final goodbyes but I considered myself in that scenario and the only thing I would be thinking about was stopping the crash because the passengers depend on me.
She died terrified, but at least she gave it her all.

Listen to the ATC audio though. She's unprofessional AF and the pilot allowed it. No way that was a professional, sterile cockpit. She should never have been in an airplane.
>>
>>545354501
Yeah I feel like a car ramming into you and your body being broken and you sitting there a few minutes while you go into shock and expire is genuinely better than the psychological horror of knowing you're about to die in a couple minutes and there is absolutely nothing you can do to stop it, even though you won't feel any pain. It's kind of an interesting sequence of events. They are getting iced. Air temp is -47 Celsius. They are in precipitation. They climb to get out of the ice and then lose control and nosedive. Only moderate turbulence. Co-Pilot starts screaming and acting like a little girl instead of calmly relaying info to the tower. It seems like they didn't have time to figure out what the fuck happened, but the pilot did bank and try to recover. I don't think they every realized how they fucked up or why. The lost the stabilizer when they climbed, which is weird.

Icing can cause a stall, but it's more of a gradual stall. This was something else. Catastrophic mechanical failure probably of the horizontal stabilizer.

she was alternating back and forth between hysterical screaming and acceptance they were going to die. I dont think the hysterical screaming was helping the situation and I think you can hear the male pilot praying for the screaming to stop.

>>
>>545354236
>At first I was thinking why didn’t she give her final goodbyes
The time from loss of control to hitting the ground was about 40 seconds and they crashed about 2 seconds after they realized they were fucked. So she didn't have time for that.

>>
>>545355155
>They climb to get out of the ice
they flew directly into a storm cell. Icing and strong downdraft/micro burst and icing and the plane lost altitude and pitched over accerlating also to 'overspeed' and then probably lost the horizontal stabilizer (ripped off) then there was no way to pull up and just went straight in at full speed.

Look faggot, part of your training as a pilot is to keep your shit together until the very end because if you start to lose your shit, you start to make mistakes that will get you killed. You need to be calm, in control, and convey info until the end. Any hope of living rests on your professional demeanor and conduct. She immediately lost her shit and started acting like a child. That tells me she was unprofessional and didn't take this shit seriously, which also makes me question what other aspects of piloting an aircraft she just kind of girl bossed over. This woman shouldn't have been allowed near an airplane.

Autistic foid here. Both parents worked in the airline industry. There wasn't anything she could have done to save the plane in that scenario. It doesn't matter that she was screaming at all, she would have died even if she were calm.
I'm more interested in whether or not she was responsible for the error of flying into the updraft. Even if you're a woman, it's obvious that you shouldn't that. It points to someone else accidentally guiding her into it. Not ruling out personal error, this one isn't giving me DEI vibes but I could be wrong, maybe she really was retarded.

>Should women be pilots?
Copilots maybe, but I'd still trust a male pilot over a female pilot. It depends on the individual but as a whole we are way less equipped to handle life or death stressful situations where thinking rationally is important. So a woman can fly a plane fine until something goes wrong, and when it goes wrong she will be much less adept at fixing the situation. Except there wasn't anything she could have done to fix the situation so there's that I guess.

It's a counterintuitive aircraft thing. It's because it controls movement along the horizontal plane. Think of it like a hinge or a pivot point. The hinge is horizontal but the parts connected to the hinge move up and down.

>they flew directly into a storm cell. Icing and strong downdraft/micro burst and icing and the plane lost altitude
Icing is usually a more gradual build up and the effect is usually an increased stall speed on the wings. This wouldn't create a condition where an airplane would immediately stall, nosedive, and crash in about a minute. It would be a longer sequence of events. Something happened on the climb which caused the stabilizer to separate from the aircraft and I think this caused the nosedive. Also, the increased speed from the nosedive itself would help you recover from the stall, presuming the aircraft was intact, and this should have prevented an overspeed condition which would damage the stabilizer. Assuming the pilot wasn't a complete idiot and knew how to recover from a stall.

They are basically flaps at the end of the exhaust and redirect thrust upware. They work on the ground because your speed is relatively slow. At 20,000 feet per second, they'd just get ripped off the aircraft, assuming the hydraulic actuators could even deploy them.

Difficult to explain aerodynamic shit happens at high speed/altitude especially with high swept back wing aircraft like Learjets. Something like the center of lift moves backwards as the wing stalls and there’s basically no way to recover in that type of aircraft. Once they’re in a near free fall descent, pieces of the jet start falling off and there’s nothing you can do. Pretty rough way for the passengers to go. They all were ready to party in the Bahamas and instead got smacked into the asphalt.

>>
>>545356322
>All the information you need to deduce what happened she said in that short audio clip.
You have some of the information from the audio. The rest of the information is basic flight physics combined with an understanding of how ice affects these physics and understanding how you can use these physics in an emergency situation to recover. Ice on the leading edge of a wing decreases pressure under the wing and increases it above, this increases stall speed. We do know from the ATC audio that they were traveling at about 20,000 feet per minute, which should have been well above stall speed, even with ice on the wings. The aircraft should have been recoverable. One of the most basic skills pilots need is stall recovery and many times, this involves an intentional nosedive to increase airspeed over wings. This should have been basic shit assuming the stabilizer was undamaged. With this in mind, there are only two possibilities: (1) both the pilot and co-pilot were DEI retards and didn't know basic stall recovery or (2) the loss of stabilizer caused the nosedive and the pilot's attempts to regain control failed because he didn't have a horizontal stabilizer.

Correct. As a pilot you are supposed to imagine this beforehand and know how to respond. If the control doesn't respond, you are supposed to calmly investigate why it isn't responding. Maybe it was something simple like the H-Stab breaker popped and it needed to be reset, but you wouldn't know that if you are screaming and losing your shit. You'd just scream and lose your shit and die instead of depressing the H-Stab breaker and living.

You're full of it, she did a great job under the circumstances
The way I know you're full of it is if you listen to enough crash recordings you'll hear plenty of male commercial pilots yelling in fear when they realize they're fucked
The ones that freak me out are when you can hear a pilot clearly dissociating while a copilot realizes just how badly they're fucked. I forget which incident it was but there's one where the pilot fucked by resetting or shutting down one of the engines, the copilot (alarmed) shouts 'why did you do that' and the pilot is like 'I didn't do that' and then it ends 2 seconds later.
In this case the plane lost the rear stabilizer as they were coming down, I'm not condemn someone for sounding a bit panicked when the plane is literally disintegrating

>where the MALE has to step up and provide!!
Correct. This wasn't a mechanical failure. It was a failure of the male pilot to create an intersectional space of gender identity where a woman can share her unique experience of flying an aircraft instead of just being oppressed by all the rules of "professional" conduct created by the white male patriarchy. Sometimes it's not so much important to know why the aircraft is falling; rather, it's how you feel about an aircraft rapidly descending and what this means to a woman who is carving out her space in a gender-diverse world. Men should embrace this role and allow women to shine, but this particular pilot was a bigot and couldn't check his male privilege.

They are, or they would have been had they not turned off the German safety system on that line completely and decided to fly blind at 270 km/h. I dunno. This one seems pretty cut and dry. Two inexperienced DEI TikTok zoomers flying into a thunderstorm isn't exactly the set-up for a paranormal explanation. Only weird thing is that I can't figure out why the stabilizer detached. They were managing the ice and the ice shouldn't have affected the stabilizer much. They only mentioned moderate turbulence. You have fairings to prevent ice buildup inside the stabilizer, so the ice couldn't have caused the mechanical failure. I can't really explain what caused it. Both the pilot and co-pilot were idiots, but they should have still survived this.

Airplanes are weird. They are made of a lot of composites and aluminum. They survive turbulence because they aren't made out of stiff, rigid materials. They are designed to flex and return to form. So, they are way more delicate than they appear. It's kind of a paradox in that it's really easy to damage them on the ground, but in the air they redirect and flex with the air to become very effective structures. TLDR, it's not surprising that a bunch of plastic and aluminum would be obliterated upon impact after freefall.

The turbulence or pilot inputs during turbulence might have over stressed the tail. Vertical stabs have been known to fail when yaw dampers go stupid. And whole horizontal stabs don't normally dampen, it is possible the pilot did just the wrong inputs and killed it.

The t tail has always looked flimsy to me. I think the turbulence killed the tail. It might have broken some and only completely fallen off in the dive.

Or maybe it was just a stall and then a TON of bad inputs. Like air france. Hopefully ntsb has enough to go on. I can't imagine the cvr would help but the fdr might.
>>
>>545355062
Possibly they had the engines on full tilt trying to fight the stall, and they didn't have the mental space to pull back on the throttles when the nose dipped hard.

When it comes to icing and stall, civilian aircraft are designed to stall nose-down in all cases, i.e.
>main wing stalls due to ice (disruption of flow at normal angles), nose down
>main wing stalls due to too slow flight (airflow detaches at high angles), brief falling tail-first and then the nose violently swings down
>horizontal stabilizer stalls, nose down
This is in contrast with military / performance planes where stall safety is secondary to performance; stalling one of those is like "if you got the engine power, we're going to the moon. If not, you're in an irrecoverable tailspin, lol".
The civilian approach is intended to always let the airplane pick up enough speed again.

However if this was a stall (and we won't know until the NTSB is done investigating in a few years, because there's no plane to investigate the easy way), if the plane picked up ice too fast, this worked against them - they stall out in stormy weather, nose dips (at high engine power), but they cannot curve out of the dive because the main wing is too caked up in ice. They get into this squeeze where their minimum speed to not stall goes too high because of the ice, while they have a definitive maximum speed where the air pressure will start ripping off pieces of the plane. If that wasn't a video distortion and they really lost the tail stabilizer, they easily could have done that by nose-diving at full engine power.
But even if they didn't, there's another thing that causes nose-down effects: the sound barrier. Wings are layman-described as producing lift 1/4 down the line from the tip - in subsonic flow. Once you break the sound barrier (over the wing locally, it accelerates flow, the hull can be subsonic), the wing produces lift in the middle of the line, so the nose tucks down even harder. Fully irrecoverable

>The turbulence or pilot inputs during turbulence might have over stressed the tail.
Probably. The only thing that gives me pause about this explanation is that they only reported moderate turbulence.
>Vertical stabs have been known to fail when yaw dampers go stupid.
That wouldn't explain a rapid descent though.
>And whole horizontal stabs don't normally dampen
They usually have servo tabs and elevators in addition to a trimmable H-Stab which work in conjunction with the auto-servo. I mean, yeah a servo could detach and fuck things up, but that wouldn't result in rapid descent. It would have made the plane really hard to control and then maybe killed them. But it wouldn't have killed them in about a minute.
>it is possible the pilot did just the wrong inputs and killed it.
No. Almost all stabilizer actuators have potentiometers that prevent movement when overvoltage occurs when it's at a stop point. A pilot really cant fuck this up.
>The t tail has always looked flimsy to me. I think the turbulence killed the tail.
The most likely explanation, but the lack of heavy turbulence gives me pause.

From the mumbling I could hear of the pilot on the ATC audio and the way she talked to him, telling him to look outside and ending with 'holy fuck we'r eout of time' my *impression* was that he was telling himself that he was going to get control back any second now and fixated on his instrument panel

So... maybe improper stall recovery technique led to overspeed and THEN loss of tail?

Thing is it's a hell of a thing for a plane to go through. Someone says 600 knots on impact?. I guarantee the plane has a limit around 300 to 400 indicated. So it was super oversped and the tail might have just fluttered right off in anger. Thing is we don't know when the tail left.

It's because she sounds like a child in her comms. She lost her shit. That's not what a pilot does. It's a dead giveaway that she should have never been near an aircraft. From what we can hear in the ATC recording it sounds like he's praying ("...Hallowed be Thy name..."), so it's possible he had already forgone trying to salvage the situation and had his head down in prayer. It's strange to me how fast even the woman copilot seemed to have lost hope, not even 10 seconds after first declaring emergency she tells ATC that they're going to crash into the ground (they're still above 25,000 feet at that point). My guess is that sometime between the mayday message she sent out and the declaration of emergency, the pilot probably told her that they were fucked.

>And 50k ft/m is about 500 kts
50k ft/m is the descent rate (vertical speed), not the velocity vector, you need to factor in the dive angle, horizontal speed (groundspeed) and timeframe to get the actual speed, the actual peak speed was ~596knots, and it could be even more because the data isn't super granular.

>So... maybe improper stall recovery technique
I mean, yeah, but the entire chain of events should have been slower, unless they were really, really stupid and stalled it via excessive climb and/or didn't have the right amount of thrust. But we didn't hear a stall warning alarm in the background of the communications and it wasn't mentioned by the foid. And they should have been able to recover from this.

>She didn't lose her shit, she got right back on task
No, she lost her shit. You could hear her panicked voice. She wasn't under control. She didn't understand her situation. She couldn't explain to ATC why this happened. She just told them they were going to die and was unaware of anything else. Both the groid and the foid shouldn't have been in the cockpit. They had no idea how the fucked up and had no idea how to fix it. Aviation is not for children that don't take this shit seriously.
>>
>>545357637
You only halfway intelligent about this topic.

Learjets have a rather tight operational speed window at those altitudes. 30 knots can be the difference between overspeed and a stall, condition depending.
On top of that, overspeed from uncontrolled dive is not a correctable condition. Even if the plane was still intact at some point, planes have a DO NOT EXCEED speed because the control surfaces aren't strong enough to turn against the air pressure force.
No control surface movement = no control. Wouldn't matter if the plane still had the tail elevator at some point.
Then,
Trying to use it in a panic during an overspeed would end up fully breaking the tail control, and then you're just dead.

We won't know for a while until the NTSB reports, if there's any data for them to recover. Which I kind of fucking doubt the recorder survived that.
But we won't really know the conditions and problems until the report.

my GUESS is they iced up really fast when hitting that storm cell, the ice caused loss of control/high speed stall, and trying to correct while overspeeding broke the elevator. Then, continued attempt at control during continued overspeed ripped the tail apart, and it was over.

my MISOGYNISTIC CHUDCEL BRAIN tells me the woman, the copilot, panicked and caused it, but the pilot, he fucked up by flying directly into the fucking storm while icing.
>>
>>545359862
If the theories about a catastrophic failure in the elevators is true, then it's likely the pilot felt it in the stick and knew shit was properly fucked quite early into the dive.
>>
>>545360158
The air is thicker at low alt, it could cruise just fine at 40k feet and 600knots, but at 10k feet the same speed would make it uncontrollable or even rip the plane apart.
>>
>>545360312
is there a way to controll the plane when elevator is holocausted ?
>>
>>545359682
She was pretty professional given that she was watching the ground approach at 20k ft/min and the plane was trying to bank onto its back. She was communicating flight information right up until they drilled it in. She was hardly hysterical and did a better job letting ATC know what was going on than (You) would have in the face of impending death. I agree, women generally are completely incapable of crisis management, but in this specific case, she did fine.
>hurr durr she should have just helped pull on the stick
You're fucking retarded and don't know anything about flying.
>>
>>545360474
not at high speed. if it happened if they were at, say, 350kph and 4000 meters maybe, but then the conditions for the tail breaking wouldnt happen there.
>>
>>545360269
I agree she didn't understand the situation, but that's partly a function of how fast in unfolded. Like she makes a mayday saying they're dropping 10k feet/m, then just a second later she's reporting 20k ft/m, and per the chart some anon posted above their angle of descent had gone from 8 degrees to 22. I'm not going to blame someone for being a bit panicked at the 100% rational realization that the aircraft is completely out of control.
You know full well there's plenty of audio of commercial airline pilots screaming their way though crashes with way less calm than this woman had.
I agree with you that as a pair of pilots these two were not up to the job and probably responsible for the whole disaster. I just object to the mental laziness of trying to dump the entire reponsilibty on teh woman because shes' a woman.
>>
>>545360312
Well, glad you jumped in at the tail of that conversation to state shit I already said elsewhere in this thread. It was the specific stall recovery maneuver the other anon referenced that I was talking about. Using the ailerons to correct the bank. You need to correct the critical AOA before attempting to use ailerons to level out. And what does correcting the AOA do by putting the aircraft into a slight dive do? Well, it increases airflow over the wings which should provide lift and directional control to help recover from a stall when flight controls are used. The rest of this shit is just speculation, but if the operational window was so tight at that altitude, they shouldn't have attempted a climb in conditions where ice could form. So it was either a massive fuck up on the pilot's part and he shouldn't have been flying, or a loss of H-Stab caused a descent they couldn't recover from.
>my MISOGYNISTIC CHUDCEL BRAIN tells me the woman, the copilot, panicked and caused it, but the pilot, he fucked up by flying directly into the fucking storm while icing.
It was probably the climb that caused the stall, especially if the operational window was so tight, but that would mean they were both really, really stupid. If you give them credit for knowing the aircraft they were flying, then they were in a situation they should have been able to manage and mechanical failure of the stabilizer is a probably cause of the rapid descent.
>>
all aircraft should require a primary and secondary parachute.

>I just object to the mental laziness of trying to dump the entire reponsilibty on teh woman because shes' a woman.

This. To get never exceed indicated of 600 you'd need a fighter jet. Even the Concorde limits indicated to 530.

Plus mach tuck might have been happening. This is awful. Is funny seeing the ignorance of this thread. The fuck up was flying into a storm. Everything after not even Chuck Yaeger would survive. That's why we don't fly into storms. That's why we have radar. Specifically so THIS doesn't happen.

Or in another way, the plane might have not hit supersonic speeds, but individual parts of the plane absolutely experienced supersonic speeds, the air flying over wings speeds up as it flows over.
So the controls were very likely done for.
>>
>>545360747
Ok, ok, I sucked it up and persevered through your stupidity.

You're still all hamstrung by the
>shouldn't have climbed in ice
part.

Climbing is exactly what they should have done. But they should have done it about 25 seconds sooner, and maintained full engine power while holding a climb rate that would keep speed in check.
You see, weather and atmosphere is a really whacky bitch.
It's -45C temps at those altitudes.
There's water suspended in the air at those temps. Not ice, not snow, water.
A plane is a big fucking magnet for those water droplets to instantly stick to the plane and turn into ice.
But if you go a little higher, suddenly the conditions for water droplets (can) go away.

It's the whole reason they wanted to climb to begin with.

Again you clearly don't actually know what you're talking about.
I might start calling you a dd14 dishonorable for behavior if you don't stop.
