>Freezers at Ica and Coop shops in Sweden were turned up to as high as 55C on Monday while supermarkets belonging to Ahold Delhaize were affected in Belgium.
>The incidents come weeks after hundreds of French supermarkets suffered similar attacks, with the temperature in one fridge rising to 80C.
>About 40 Delhaize shops in Belgium were affected, 15 from Carrefour and five from Spar, according to local media reports.
>Coop in Sweden said that unidentified hackers had been able to tamper with fridges and freezers at seven of its roughly 800 stores.
>Camilla Nilsson, store manager of Ica St Olof in Österlen in Sweden, said that hackers had “managed to get into our refrigeration management systems and change the settings”. At least four of Ica’s shops were hit.
>Experts have repeatedly warned of the damage cyber attacks could inflict on critical infrastructure, from power plants to food shops, due to poor IT security and outdated software.
>“We can’t adjust the temperatures, we can’t change them. Hot air is blowing into the freezers. Everything is ruined,” Rickard Nilsson, head of an Ica shop in Sjöbo in southern Sweden, told newspaper Aftonbladet.
>Temperatures of more than 50C had destroyed food worth hundreds of thousands of Swedish krona, he added.
>Last month’s attacks in France are being investigated by the cyber crime unit of the Paris public prosecutor’s office as well as Anssi, the French government’s cyber security agency.

>Many of the affected fridges and freezers were running software by Danfoss, the large, privately owned Danish industrial group. Researchers at cyber security company Claroty said in a report in August that they had “identified multiple vulnerabilities” in Danfoss’s systems, which the Danish group subsequently fixed.
>Danfoss said last month that the cyber attacks affected fridge systems that were no longer receiving security updates and were running on outdated firmware. The Danish company said no link had been established between Monday’s attacks and its products.
>Attacks on industrial hardware, known in the cyber security industry as operational technology or OT, have traditionally required highly specialised knowledge and been difficult to execute at scale.
>Robert Lee, chief executive of cyber security company Dragos and a leading expert on OT attacks, said large language models had made it easier for hackers to access the expertise and tools needed to hit multiple devices and sites at the same time.
>Earlier this year, suspected Iranian hackers targeted dozens of water utilities in the US, locking administrators out of their systems and forcing shutdowns.
>“The reach and scale of these attacks is new,” he said, noting that OT attacks used to be one-off incidents. “We’ve never had a hundred-plus water utilities [being affected] at once. We’ve never had hundreds of supermarkets at once.”
>Ahold said it was aware of “an IT incident affecting the refrigeration systems in a number of Delhaize stores” and was working to assess the situation.

>lets connect fridge to internets
>gute idea sven
>>
the more i think about it the more im starting to realize that AI might actually cause all countries in the world to fully lock down at some point. can't have devices connect to the internet because AI might find a way to compromise it. or when AI starts building super viruses. you have to keep your borders shut. being non-interventionist and ultra nationalist will become a necessity for survival.

utopia awaits.

ruzza did this

If your freezer can be hacked then honestly its your own fault for using smart devices for things that dont need to be smart devices.
If your freezer is connected to the internet you're a fucking retard.
>>
>>545363634
wtf i hate france now
>>
>>545363738
Sadly everything is internet connected now. Wouldn't surprise me if hackers start going after all the smart thermostats and setting people's homes on fire.
>>
>>545363634
Why the fuck are freezers hackable?
>>
>>545363634
Good. They deserve it for connecting this shit to the internet in the first place.

Why and how to freezers have a 130f setting
>>
>>545364080
Kikes in the tech sector and traitor politicians.
Also Ziggers chimps do this sabotage shit constantly as soon as there is any vulnerability.

Compressors can be made to run in reverse some even have built in radiant defrosters.
>>
>>545363986
I mean, it KINDA makes sense in stores and warehouses where there are many of them and they actually do have a strong reason to keep tabs of the temperatures of each of them.
But even then, actual control over the internet was always hazardous.
Now that Sweden and Belgium have been hit, where there are no chimpouts, how long until ziggers are blamed?
>>
>>545363678
>>Danfoss said last month that the cyber attacks affected fridge systems that were no longer receiving security updates and were running on outdated firmware.
This is such bs. If your product becomes a liability after you refuse to update them, then people are better off buying from someone else.

>lets put internet connection to our freezers

I bet builder of those freezers will be bankrupt soon unless is that already.

why are you so spiteful? We are suffering, our economy is really bad atm. I can barely afford anything on my gibs.

>and they actually do have a strong reason to keep tabs of the temperatures of each of them.
yeah, because there are controllers and middle management assholes who like to micromanage and saw on their excel sheet that one could save €0,00008 a week if the fridges could be centrally adjusted.

Ancient news, local supermarket is changing all its freezers at the moment, nothingburger
>>
>>545365003
it's far better if you can monitor and administrate all your devices not running around your store. it's worth more than a few cents a year.
it was risky to have them accessible from the internet, and may not worth the risk... And totally braindead to protect them with some stupid date of the day password or something.
I don't even understand how the rest of europe had this happenning, france got fucked hard a few days ago. They saw this coming. At this point, they deserve it.
>>
>>545364330
>Compressors can be made to run in reverse
Engineers would have to go out of their way to make this possible in a refrigeration system.

This is a joke, right?

50 % of all IT is ”because we can” not ”because it improve the product and service”. It’s just idiocy.

Are europoors retarded or something. Just unplug it if you need to remove ice buildup

It really doesn't make sense. They aren't all going to malfunction at the same time. It's needlessly added complexity just to shave off some pennies. They probably lost more in a night than they saved in 20 years.

Why are the freezers connected to the internet?
Why are they able to be turned on or off over the internet? Why would you allow anything more than simple temperature and maintenance monitoring to be shared over the internet for fucking grocery store freezers? The things are basically going to be on 24/7, it's not like they're turned off overnight, they're always going to have frozen shit in them no matter what.
>>
>>545363634
>Delhaize
this is "Food lion"
>>
Why is everything connected to the internet
>>
>>545363634
Reports in Finland now too.
>>
>>545363634
Sounds fake. How do freezers get that hot? They would have to have heaters in them or something
>>
>>545364080
So that Israel can extort them.
>>
>>545363634
>55C
are freezers even capable of reaching such temperatures????
>>
>>545372740
Most commercial freezers have heaters for defrosting. and come with remote controls for monitoring and trouble shooting.

Find the server, guess the admin username and password. Make defrost cycle run for all night long. Done.
>>
>>545364709
well, i'll just buy regular produce:)

>>
>>545364048
i fucking hope so, all tech "enthusiasts" should be raped and killed.
>>
>>545363738
it's a good idea, actually. Do you trust the average minimum wage supermarket employee to monitor the temperature of these things and actually react when something is wrong?
>>
>>545364616
doesn't really make sense and you put it well yourself, the functionality if any should have been to simply send out the temperature readings and leave control to on site staff.
>>
>>545375075
it's pretty nice equipment and the limit switches are entirely software based (what got hacked)
>>
>>545375534
you mean management or the assistant manager that actually needs shit to do besides twiddling their thumbs? dude youre german dont be hitting people with false premises like that. you are not jewish.

old refrigerators didn't have this problem. maybe it was dumb to let tech jews put everything on to "The Cloud"

>We need to connect everything to the internet
>Oh no, how come everything is vulnerable to cyber attacks now?!?!
Fucking retarded. I know some faggot is going to respond saying that internet connected freezers make it easier to control the temperature of all the freezers at once or some retarded mild convenience that doesn't even come close to outweighing the cons of having whole supermarkets hacked by mossad agents.
>>
>>545375534
You could run the fridge controls on a raspberry pi not connected to the internet lol.
