We rely heavily on cars as our cities are more spread out. The Chinese bought into the 15 minute city meme that you all go full schizo about. If an American took a train from San Diego to Dallas, he would still need to get a car to travel locally. We also have a very robust and affordable domestic airline network that gets us around the country. Tl;dr Chinese society is built different, which is why their transportation is different
