1) why the fuck are the fridges connected to the internet
2) why didn't the supermarkets update the fridges when the exploit was exposed 2 weeks ago when a similar hack happened in other countries?
>>
>>545366213
>why the fuck are the fridges connected to the internet
so they can be adjusted from a singular control panel in the offices most likely
it might not even be connected to the internet so-to-speak but it's connected to a computer which is connected to the internet so
>>
>>545366378
Is it so hard for the manager to just slide on back to a locked panel and flip a bunch of switches?

We literally lock electrical boxes for this exact reason.
>>
>>545366213
>Hackers turned the temperature up to 70Communist(158Freedom)
>Freezers can be turned into food warmers.
Damn, European freezers are fancy.
>>
>>545366213
You don't understand, the fridge needs to be connected to the internet
>>
>>545366213
They are supposed to have alarm systems too that are connected to wifi, that alert the management if the temperature gets too high.
>>
>>545366213
Why are europoors so bad at cyber security?
>>
PACE status?
>>
>>545366702
...and you think the control parameters for this alarm are in a completely separate system from temp control? think for 3 seconds before barfing up a post please
>>
>>545366213
>why the fuck are the fridges connected to the internet
Regulatory and legal bollocks. Temps need recording and logging centrally, and if mrs miggins gets the shits off her frozen pawns and sues, you can show they were stored at the right temp.
>>
>>545366213
why would fridges have a temp setting as high as 158 degrees?
lmfao
>>545366577
this anon gets it (also checked)
>>
>>545366577
>>545366980
Freezers have literal heaters built in them. Set the defrost for infinite and the fans will shut off and run the drain pan and evaporator coil heater. If that runs for a few hours, yes it will get hot in there.
>>
As for why they need it connected to the internet. All the temperatures need to be monitored and logged for legal reasons. Since we can't entrust this task to a minimum wage goober a computer system does it and only corporate management can access this.
>>
yawn looks liek dumbfuck dipshit retard america has a whole lot moar functionality lmao

>>
>>545366378
Back in my day, we could use freezers and refrigerators without having to connect them to the internet.
>>
>>545366213
This is an obvious psyops.
2030 you will own nothing and be happy remember
>>
>>545366743
>europeans
>a few fridges in a couple of countries

It wasn't thousands of fridges all around Europe, you brown mutt
>>
>>545366378
>>545366498
>>545368617
It's supposed to be a smart system that allows the company that sold the fridges/freezers to see what's wrong if maintenance calls are made, and so that the maintenance people can show up and instantly access everything without needing to find out what your networking system is for controlling your devices.
In other words, it's stupid and insecure by design.
>>
>>545366213
>>
>>545366577
Several US military bases were also hit.
>>
>>545366702
The details for the job say the hackers turned off the alarm system and also turned off the auto-disengage that is supposed to occur if it gets too warm for more than an hour.
>>
>>545366378
>offices
it's not for offices if its sold in a retail shop anyone can go to.
>>
>>545366213
Why didn't they learn from the previous hack? Do these companies even have sentient humans any longer or is it just all autopilot normie NPC automatons who don't care about losing a few million on their watch?
>>
>>545366577
Yeah, escape Europe.
>>
>>545366743
Shut the fuck up candy cane country
>>
>>545369009
How many store owners are double checking every hacking alert and then checking if their models are the ones to receive the firmware update to stop this?
How many of them also have an IT guy on call who isn't going to charge an arm and a leg for non-regular maintenance?
How many fridges just didn't get the firmware update because the company said this is only affecting the ones who are end of life/service.
>>
>>545367204
Ah thanks, I was confused on that part too
>>
>>545366213
>Why do they connect it to the internet
Corpos chasing short term profits, hoped to make it possible to fire more store clerks if they could get a machine to keep inventory and alert when new stock needed delivered.

>Why they no fix?
Most corpos have moved away from maintaining in house IT departments. So they rely on jeet imports on contract, which almost certainly doesn't include pre-emptive security work. Strictly confined to password resets and other nonsense
>>
>>545366213
yt pipo dont update dey fridge
>>
I got this crazy idea, what about disconnecting FUCKING FRIDGES and other vital infrastructure from the internet so that there are less atack vectors.
>>
>>545369115
Forgot to change your flag, faggot.
>>
>>545369141
The previous supermarket "fridge hack" was widely reported though. The companies which manage these remotely kind of literally have a professional mandate and duty to be on top of this and make sure it doesn't happen, it's literally their entire deal.
>>
>>545369560
The ones who manage it remotely put out the message
"This is only our old end of life models, here's a fix that you have to apply manually if you have those old models, we don't keep track of them, you should just buy our new models where we can fix it for you!"
>>
>>545366213
>fridges connected to the internet
absolutely deserved
>>
>>545366213
Never had this problem in the pre-2000's
LMAO!
>>
>>545366213
deserved cause its fucking retarded but something tells me only russians would be this petty to go for something like this kek
>>
What about my din dins?
>>
>>545366378
Real question why can they go up to 70 degrees?
>>
>>545368960
duh
supermarkets have back areas, computers are kept there, in rooms we call "offices"
>>
>>545368893
god bless Germans
I'm just "connecting dots" but you seem more knowledgeable, cheers
>>
>>545369883
Yes but then they had to PAY someone to manually adjust the fridges and freezers rather than farm it out for cheaper and also use imported foreign scab labor in their grocery stores, and that's not good for Shekelstein's bottom line
>>
Based. I consider this whitehat hacking.
Anyone who fucks with idiocrazy-tier IoT nonsense is a hero a public educator like Carl Sagan.

>why the fuck are the fridges connected to the internet

kek
yeahhh
>>
They might have to prove that food was stored at appropriate temp
Also there will be a mean temp setting thats the most efficient as a target, that across whole corp chains is a big money saver
Alarms for spike in temp sent to manager to check door failures/not closed

This isnt just retail corp, if you are independent its very unlikely you will be able to lease or buy this equipment without agreeing to remote access these days for maintenance and warranty purposes

Also, this looks suspiciously like an AI thing, its credential based and is reiterating across many different fields for absolutely no financial gain
>>
>>545370031
because that esssentially means off unless it is greater than 70 degrees outside the fridge, then it will cool it to 70 degrees
>>
>>545366577
All freezers have heaters in them (including the one in your kitchen)
The heat is switched on periodically to prevent build-up of ice on the cooling surfaces, as this will impair efficiency.
>>
>>545370665
kek
Done some research and as usual
Its legit retarded
Its 2 companies using weak security across their entire base with a proven security failure that should have been patched last year
If its older hardware or hasnt been patched its vulnerable to script kiddies
>>
>>545366213
Holy fuck, reports in Finland now too
>>
>>545371052
70 degrees celsius nigger. Look at the fucking op picrel. Makes no sense it can be that high, unless it's some fancy cleaning program but then that is not really high enough to do anything.
>>
>>545366213
How is this possible?
Not the hack, approving an IOT system that allows setting temp?
Who the fuck is retarded enough to approve that in stores?
>>

>why the fuck are the fridges connected to the internet
You will pay ze freezer subscription and you will be happy
>>
>>545366213
If you think most corporate stores wouldn't gladly let this happen so they could toss everything for the tax write off you're very silly. Everything that enters inventory is counted as sold the second it hits shelves, any loss or slippage is great for Jewing the taxpayers.
>>
Weird point of start for ze cyber pandemik
>>
>>545366577
>Hackers turned the temperature up to 70Communist(158Freedom)
Lmfao
>>
>>545366213
Nevermind that it's hooked to the internet.
The machine can parse an input temperature setting of 50 degrees.
Why the fuck can it do that.
It only needs to operate between 1-7°C or turn off completely.
WHY THE FUCK CAN IT DIGEST 50°C WITHOUT DEFAULTING TO A SAFE 4°C?
Whoever engineered this system has been a colossal fuckless retard. Doesn't give a fuck, doesn't receive a fuck, and won't receive a future contract either.
>>
>>545374445
Because the implementation spec was not clarified so the engineers build it according to the standard temp board sheet they had available.

I see this all too often at most Dutch companies these days as well. The actual fucking requirements are not clear. So developers and engineers just fucking wing it.
>>
>>545376227
That's because the management layers making those requirement decisions want to save as much money as possible, that's their job, so they make the list as short as possible.
That way all contractors can offer the lowest bid, and the absolute lowest bid gets the contract, then proceeds to fuck everything up on top of the list suddenly growing twice as long or bigger than that even.
Some Dutch businessmen are smart to this bullshit and just make a proper list and don't go for the bottom of the barrel, but they're young businessmen. Most Dutch businessmen are old and retarded.
Those idiots refuse to accept that their greed is costing their business more money than a proper effort would have.
