Everyone does not have the same capacity or desire for learning, or the same ability to correctly practice what they learned. America is full of educated idiots with degrees in women's studies or Pan-African Social Anthropology, or any number of worthless meme degrees. It also has people who are quite educated and competent in their own hyperspecialized field but a complete retard outside of it. All of these people along with the entirely ignorant, for whom education holds know value, are given equal stakes in the democratic system. In reality, they are merely elements to be manipulated by greater powers that use the democracy to rule autocratically by proxy. They can legitimize their tyranny by claiming it is the will of the people. They can also absolve themselves of responsibility for their failures by claiming they were only doing what the people voted for.

>>545377386In theory the republic was supposed to mitigate that problem with democracy by putting the responsibility for making decisions on elected representatives and not the actual public. The electoral college was another example of this design principle, explicitly put in place in case the public elected someone the electors thought wouldn't do a good job, there is no legal system in place that forces electors to vote along with their states voters. The founder knew full well that "the people" are a collectively stupid and unreliable. In practice, the elected representatives spend all of their time pandering to their constituents because all they care about is getting reelected. If their constituents want trannies in public libraries, then that's what they campaign on. Term limits could potentially be a solution to this.
