That way if it gets bumped, it won't flip.The video is showing how simple downward force is enough to cam the safety up, and disengage the switch. The safety switch does not do its job. It needs a stronger spring and more aggressive locking protrusion on the bottom.

They are extremely positive in their locking mechanism, with a very strong spring pulling the knob downward and a large locking lug that prevents it from switching without first pulling the knob out far enough to clear the lug. I actually posed this exact question to a 787 pilot at coffee break here while we were working on his private aircraft, and he was not shy about dismissing the very idea that this switch could fail in this way, let alone both of them at once. His speculation was that the copilot may have had his head elsewhere and was going through a ground test/training procedure in which flipping both the fuel cutoff switches is one of the primary steps. I'd say human error, but obviously the copilot was a jeet.
