It's a case of negligence more than anything, they should have patched the holes when French attack happened.
Of course no one did that because it costs money and security only becomes important after the damage is done.

I suppose if the motors underneath are running and the door is kept closed the heat might build up to that point if the refrigerant was somehow removed. how did hackers make the coolant not be compressed while the motors ran?

This is why politicians in various countries are telling people to stock food and water.
The cyber security is dog shit and presumably now ai is good enough to find the flaws and exploit them.

We used to have programs installed locally on our work computers and now everything is on remote servers and we just have work stations. Its really slow but presumably it was done for security reasons.
>>
My stupid new cloths washer can connect to wifi. A feature I will never ever use but maybe hackers and connect remotely and send it into a fast enough spin that it catches fire and my house burns down.

great.

why the FUCK can freezers and coolers remotely heat up to 50c
>>
seems like a pretty kino event. grocers rushing to liquidate inventory, man with large domestic freezer acquire top quality frozen dairy treats at a great discount.

russian conspiracy to give the working man cheap dairy products? can’t say i hate it.
>>
>>545395682
>grocers rushing to liquidate inventory
Lmao, by that logic tons of food wouldn't be literally thrown out every day. You're not going to get any discounts or deals.
>>
>>545395525
Better question is, why do freezers need to be connected through the internet to some central server?
And why the fuck is the password just 4 zeroes?
>>
If you dont have 3 days of food in your house or more you are probably being irresponsible with your money.

Get some fucking rich and or lentils. Cheap as fuck and feeds you for little effort.
>but what if the nukes are falling.
Hold the packet towards the flash of light. That can heat food in a pinch.

So they can be remotely monitored.

The issue is they include some cheap component that is actually just a basic computer that can do all sorts instead of a custom built controller that can only control temperature within controlled parameters and report back.

Your wrist watch might have some function that allows it to detonate the battery because that component was cheaper than one that only lets it be a wrist watch.

>They are insulated, which is a two way street - retains cold, retains heat
>Anything that goes below freezing will build up frost over time, which anyone who cleaned grandma's freezer will know is pretty much impossible to remove once sufficiently caked without just unplugging the thing and letting it thaw
>So commercial units (and probably your own freezer) are equipped with a heating unit designed to cyclically switch on and warm up just the surfaces frost will accumulate on.
>The timing and cycles for this are controlled electronically, because obviously; every customer's going to be setting their freezers to different temps with different products affecting airflow, so each customer will find a different cycle rate works best...
>But oh no now someone figured out how to remote into their master controller and set the defrost cycle to last infinitely long, inadvertently repurposing the defrosting heating element into a functional space heater
>The output of which is hotboxed by the insulation until the entire unit destroys itself

Now read up on how to remove and clean your home fridge's drip pan anon.

They have a defrost mode with a heating element.

For supermarkets it makes sense to have network connected freezers.
If only to log the temperatures in case something spoiled.
It could even be a security feature to prevent customers from fiddling with the temperature.
And it would have been fine if they used proper authentication.
>>
>>545392858
What fucking retard decided it was a good idea to connect freezers to the internet?
>you can adjust the temperature online
Bro jusy fucking have the wagie you're allready paying to stock the fridge adjust it. Its a fucking fridge

God i hate this retarded shit. Why tf do they even get that hot?
