>>545400221How long before a tankie aims the tank cannon upward and shoots one down?
Let me guess. THAT doesn't induce any """climate change™""", right?
>>545402083You'd think it would, at least locally.I'm skeptical that this would actually be profitable.
>>545402711Checked>Reflect Orbital claims the technology would be most useful for solar power, which cannot soak up energy after sunset, as well as for search-and-rescue teams and natural disaster responders that operate overnight. It could even be used to light industrial sites or manipulate the growing behavior of crops. They only "solution looking for a problem" this provides is the search-and-rescue angle.Everything else has negative externalities associated.
>>545403148I've been thinking about how to justify the concept but I can't think of anything that's very convincing. Maybe I'm missing something but if I were a potential investor I think I would absolutely pass on this.
How much to beam 64 areas randomly in a quadrant of the globe? Can it be in motion?
>>545403609I'd be worried about a lawsuit in the future.People are already worried about how it would fuck with the local weather by creating a weird hot beam of air.
>>545404707I suppose that'd be a concern but I'd be very surprised if it ever got that far. I can't really imagine the kind of person who'd be willing to pay a lot of money for this.
>>545405135It would be corporations that want the fertile grounds of northern latitudes but are annoyed at the cooler temps and lack of sun in a big chunk of the year. This would further destroy any small local farming.I've already heard of groups making the Sam Altman argument and that small scale farming should be outlawed so all the resources can be given to megacorps to farm for us because they can make better use of it.
>>545405435Large scale farming is more efficient but that's a separate issue (not that I think anything should be outlawed). I considered farmers upon thinking it over further still I can't justify it. Even assuming that it'd work for that purpose I'm not convinced that this would be the optimal solution for any problem they'd face.
>>545400221lemme guess, they're either white or jewish
>>545405956You're not thinking like a corporation. The goal is to "win" at any cost.If it's not optimal doesn't matter. Hell even if it hurts you it doesn't matter if it hurts your opponents more. A lot of corporate movements are more about denying their competition access. That's why you often see corporations being behind the push for regulations to make any competition nearly impossible to start up due to the massive upfront costs the regulations require.
>>545406412Corporations are just people trying to make money, and money was the only thing I was thinking about there.
