You may recall him as the same senator who was beaten nearly to death with a cane by a southerner before the war. The North won the war, amd could have enacted what they pleased. The only people who were seriously trying to do that were the American Colonization Society who founded Liberia, and most of them were wealthy Southerners. It’s also really stupid to try to blame the South exclusively for slavery when enslaved Africans were first brought to what is now the USA by the Dutch and Spanish in the early 17th Century over 100 years before this was even an independent country. On top of that, the importation of slaves into the USA was federally banned like 50 years before the Civil War even happened, so no one who was responsible for the war actually had anything to do with the Transatlantic slave trade. The actual cause of the South’s secession, and subsequently the war, was incitement by deranged Northern abolitionists who tried to incite violent slave revolts in the South after seeing the results of such a rebellion in Haiti. These abolitionists were bankrolled by Northern elites who wanted to sabotage the South due to the fact that New Orleans and the Mississippi Delta region were beginning to economically overtake New England and Boston as the seat of economic influence in America after the Louisiana Purchase by President Jefferson. The North at that time was largely populated by nigger-loving libtards who hypocritically don’t want to live near niggers just as it is today.
