Though the word has the connotation of a detestable lowlife or a leech, particularly a black person. And ironically and originally, nigger was just indiscriminately used as a disparaging word to refer to all black related persons in general. Now nigger is just a more racially charged and offensive way of calling someone a fucker or a wanker. It doesn't really mean anything and those who say it are just embittered and mad, either rightfully so or wrongfully so. Obviously the word in recent decades has become more memetic especially here. So if you didn't do anything to deserve being called one, then you don't need to take offense because its really shame on the person who namecalled you that.
