Power levels are the most important aspect of fighting in Dragon Ball. Skill, strategy, techniques mean nothing if your power level is lower than your opponent. You're a non-entity, a nobody. It's what separated those of worth from the worthless. That's ALL THAT MATTERS. I used to impress my friends by memorizing all the power levels revealed in the Dragon Ball Z anime, I even remembered the power levels of minor characters, such as Cui (18,000). The fact that Toriyama doesn't pay respect to this measurement just shows how far he has fallen. Dragon Ball was at its best when Power Levels was the center of everything.
To be fair, you have to have a very high IQ to understand Dragon Ball Super. The humour is extremely subtle, and without a solid grasp of theoretical physics most of the jokes will go over a typical viewers head. There's also Whis' nihilistic outlook, which is deftly woven into his characterisation- his personal philosophy draws heavily from Narodnaya Volya literature, for instance. The fans understand this stuff; they have the intellectual capacity to truly appreciate the depths of these jokes, to realise that they're not just funny- they say something deep about LIFE. As a consequence people who dislikes Super truly ARE idiots- of course they wouldn't appreciate, for instance, the humour in Son Goku's existential catchphrase "ATATATATATATATA" which itself is a cryptic reference to Turgenev's Russian epic Fathers and Sons. I'm smirking right now just imagining one of those addlepated simpletons scratching their heads in confusion as Akira Toriyama's genius wit unfolds itself on their television screens. What fools.. how I pity them. And yes, by the way, i DO have a Dragon Ball tattoo. And no, you cannot see it. It's for the ladies' eyes only- and even then they have to demonstrate that they're within 5 IQ points of my own (preferably lower) beforehand.

It's what made that whole saga the best of the series. They were running around on a planet having just realized how vastly outclassed they were, and that even this absolute titan that was Vegeta is just a middling enforcer, pressed firmly under Frieza's thumb.It really made it all sensical. Cui and Zarbon and Jase and Berter were scary in their own right, but they were all just 0.1% as powerful as Frieza.Even when Goku showed up, and he'd worked his way up to 100,000+, you knew this Frieza guy was just going to be too much. And it made Super Saiyan this insanely gratifying moment.And they ripped the entire planet apart in their battle. The whole world had been cut in half with the flick of Frieza's finger. It was so fucking cool.Nothing compares to that era. And knowing/memorizing the power levels was half the fun.

Goku is a literal retard, and Chi-Chi is certainly never shown to be very intelligent. it would have made more sense for Trunks to be the one who abandons fighting to become a professor or whatever, since Bulma is at least super smart and comes from a lineage of inventor scientists.
