can some amerikaners explain to me why the current midterm is considered a >utter GOP annihilation and disasterseems like all things considered the results are fairly normal, no?
>>545592491Usually the house and senate get split for midterms, you dont normally see a super majority when there's 2 years left in the term
>>545592491bread and circusesbread is more expensive and politics is the only circus right now considering everything else turned to shit - wars, entertainment, media, games, economy..
>>545592663ok that already narrows it downbut didn't Obummer have the same situation? why are people saying >it's over for the GOP?
>>545592491Cynically speaking, it's just MSM and now influencers hyping up people for clicks; less cynically it's recency bias. The particluars of this election will not be remembered 3 decades from now, just as if you asked anyone other than a political historian about the midterm election of '94, you'd get a blank stare.
>>545592491Blue MAGA are just gloating because it's all they've had in the past 11 years.
>>545592976Because they lost safe seats in deep red districts and the senate will remain at least 50% dem until 2032.
>>545593292they lost safe seats and yet it's only -11,5 % -13,2 ?
>>545593292More like 2030.
>>545593163but biden won in 2020?
>>545592491Kind of depends. Long term average in midterms is like -26 seats for the President's party in the House of Representatives. But, Republicans redistricted, meaning re-drew the boundaries of House districts, with the goal of increasing their odds of winning seats. So in a sense the table was supposed to be tilted in favor of Republicans this election, and they still got a sweeping victory. Right now, Dems are expected to finish with 255-260 seats when all races have been finalized. Let's take just 255. That's a +41 seat gain in an election where, again, the table was tilted against Republicans. So +15 over average on its own is a serious defeat. Then you add in the Senate. Long term average in midterms is -4 for the president's party. At the moment, it looks like that will end up being -9. You can't gerrymander away an advantage in the Senate since it's a statewide race. That is a stunning defeat for Republicans considering many of the losses are in reliably Republican states that Trump won comfortably just 2 years ago. A couple, like North Carolina or Maine, are not big surprises. Texas isn't even that shocking considering Paxton literally tried to get his pedophile friend off scott-free after he fucked a little boy. Places like Mississippi, Iowa, South Carolina, etc. are unbelievable defeats. Basically every demographic group swung hard away from Trump and the GOP, including some of his most hardcore support groups. Again, this is a staggering defeat for a President and party that won a sweeping victory in 2024 with a mandate. I can not stress enough how disastrous the Iran War has been for Trump and the GOP. The Iran War, and the economic fallout from it, were THE issues everyone cared most about, and those people all either stayed home or voted Democrat by wide margins.
>>545593393The seats that were available for grabs were unfavorable for dems in the first place. Bunch of deep red and deep blue places, not the ones that usually flip flops between blue and red.
>>545592491You need to understand that 2 years ago, miggers convinced themselves that the democrats were never going to win another election. So just two years later at the very next election, getting their asses handed to them on a transexual platter, it's hard for them to accept.
>>545592491More polarization than the 90s. Fewer weak opposition party seats in dominant states.
>>545592976If Obama lost California that would be something
>>545592976Everyone knows this was a repudiation of MAGA assclowns
>>545592976The 2010 tea party wave flipped Dixecrat seats in red states where they were used to running unopposed. Those kinds of seats don't exist anymore.
>>545592491the seats that got flipped were considered safe republican seats
>>545595160you are indian>>545592976obongo didn't lose any safe dem seats. the dems were super upset about the whole thing and crying about it, but he mostly lost seats the dems gained in 2006 and 2008. Plus, the demographics favor dems because shitskins vote for dems
It's more of a geography thing than a number of seats thing. Where the GOP lost is a huge deal, Kansas was specifically a huge cut and there were plenty more. The other part of this is that the GOP forced a big gerrymandering redraw of the districts which directly caused them losing seats in districts that they redrew to avoid this very thing
>>545592491Basically it's because of the way elections are done in the US. Not all of them happen at the same time. This means that some elections favor republicans more or less depending on who is up for election this time. This one was one that favored republicans because they had more elections they should have won this time around.
>>545595782>>545595465ok that makes sense
>>545592491Do you understand what it would be like if California and Minnesota turned red? That's how it was for Republicans to lose Texas and California. And Democrats picked up so many seats in the senate that even if they lose every race in 2028 (hint: they won't) they'd still have a majority in the upper chamber.
