They tried to climb out of the weather but it just ended up icing the plane even faster. The pilot then maneuvered in a way, because the plane was iced up and he was desperately trying to gain control, that was far beyond that which the structure of the plane could handle. At some point the tail snapped, the plane was already put of control, and it crashed. There won't be any more information until the investigation concludes which will be within 1 year (probably much sooner given the attention that was given to the crash).
