The attitude towards Indians usually fluctuates between disrespect and hatred, more so than with other immigrants despite Indians committing fewer crimes. However, as soon as they actually enter the country and get to experience life outside of the caste system where your role in society is not decided at your birth, they make a 180 turn and start demanding respect simply because they see that the system is weaker than they had previously imagined and thus could be exploited. Which is where disrespect turns to hatred. What they fail to realize is that Western society is a bit more nuanced than that and the mere fact that you are not being looked down upon solely because of your ethnicity, does not yet mean people view you as their superior. It is this clash of cultures that makes Indians so hated - they legitimately believe that if they are not being actively discriminated like back home or in some Gulf State, it is not a sign of good will, but weakness of the society which is now hosting them.
